Watch: Ravi Ashwin's response when asked whom he surpassed for record 33rd 5-fer in tests

Ravi Ashwin registered his 33rd 5-fer in test cricket with his 5-fer against West Indies in the first test at Dominica.

Ravi Ashwin owned the first day of the first Test match against West Indies. He claimed his 33rd five-wicket haul in style, putting his team in a commanding position. This now makes him the bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in Test cricket among all active players.

Ashwin had missed the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 final against Australia earlier in June, but he made an impactful return in India's first match of the new 2023-25 WTC cycle. He took 5/60 in 24.3 overs at an economy rate of 2.44, dismissing skipper Kraigg Braithwaite, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Alick Athanaze, Jason Holder, and Jomel Warrican.

Ashwin corrects quiz answer after initially mistaking Anderson for McGrath

Ravi Ashwin has now overtaken England pacer James Anderson to become the bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in Test cricket among all active players. Ashwin now has 33 five-wicket hauls in the longer format, compared to Anderson's 32.

In a recent quiz, Ashwin was asked about the bowler he surpassed for his 33rd five-wicket haul. He initially answered Glenn McGrath, but then was given the hint that the bowler was from England. Ashwin then correctly answered James Anderson.
