Smriti Mandhana-led RCB won the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024.

Many fans have supported Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their wins and losses, but for one die-hard fan, it extends to permanent ink. A dedicated supporter of the Bengaluru franchise has recently gained attention for fulfilling a unique promise.

After Smriti Mandhana-led RCB women won the franchise’s maiden trophy with WPL 2024 triumph, a die-hard fan of the franchise tattooed names of all squad members who were part of RCB’s WPL 2024 title win.

On March 17, 2024, Smriti Mandhana-led RCB took on Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals in the WPL 2024 final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

DC opted to bat first, but their decision backfired as they just managed to score 113 runs after having a stunning opening wicket partnership of 64 runs between Shafali Verma and skipper Lanning. RCB’s spin trio consisting of Asha Sobhana, Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux pulled things back as they claimed nine wickets.

In response, RCB batters Mandhana (31) and Sophie Devine (32) and Ellyse Perry (35*) helped their side chase 114 runs in 19.3 overs with eight wickets in hand to win the match. After this victory, the women’s team etched their name in the cricket record books as they won the franchise’s maiden trophy and ended their 16-year-long trophy drought.

RCB fan fulfilled his promise after Bengaluru won the WPL 2024 trophy

The franchise is known for its passionate fan base, but was lacking a silverware in the men’s IPL. The Bengaluru franchise has played three IPL finals, but couldn’t cross the finish line. However, in the second season of WPL, RCB women’s side emerged victorious and ended the franchise’s trophy drought.

A video is going viral on the social media handle ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) where a die-hard RCB fan displayed his loyalty towards his promise which he fulfiled after women’s team won the WPL 2024 title.

Here is the viral video:

While the fan’s loyalty undoubtedly lies with RCB, his chosen ink commemorates the WPL champions, highlighting the immense popularity the second season garnered across India. The prestigious tournament captured many iconic moments of fans, much like the well-established IPL. This also reflects the overall growth for cricket in the country.
