[Watch] Suryakumar Yadav joins MI camp, gives his team big boost ahead of their next IPL clash
Suryakumar Yadav underwent an operation for sports hernia and earlier had suffered an ankle injury.
Suryakumar Yadav joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp on Friday, April 5, for the IPL 2024 season. His arrival in the team is a big boost to the franchise as they are reeling at the bottom of the points table with losses in their first three games.
Having suffered defeats against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad in home encounters, MI also lost their first home game against Rajasthan Royals earlier this week.
The top-ranked T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav last played competitive cricket in December 2023, when he hit a century in the third T20I against South Africa. However, during that series, he sustained a grade 2 ankle rupture that necessitated surgery.
Suryakumar later underwent surgery for a sports hernia, delaying his comeback to cricket while he completed his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He was supposed to return to competitive play at the start of the IPL 2024, but he was forced to miss Mumbai’s first three matches due to a lack of clearance from the NCA.
Suryakumar Yadav joins MI camp, appears in a photoshoot
Suryakumar Yadav joined the IPL in 2012 with Kolkata Knight Riders and moved to MI in the 2018 IPL. SKY, as he is better known, has played 85 matches for MI and scored 2641 runs with 20 fifties and one century at a strike rate of over 145.
However, in good news, Suryakumar Yadav shared a video on Instagram in which he is seen donning the MI uniform and arriving at the team hotel. He captioned the video: “Jab hotel mein aate hi 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝗸𝘆 met 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘆𝗮 👀🍿”
Whether he plays against DC will depend on his fitness, but SKY’s return is good news for Mumbai, which is suffering for results. They are the only team to have lost all three matches thus far and are at the bottom of the standings.
