India lost the BGT 2024-25 by 3-1 and failed to qualify for the ICC WTC 2023-25 final.
From October 16, 2024, to January 5, 2025, India cricket suffered a downfall and lost the legacy in test cricket they had taken years (literally over a decade) to build.
New Zealand, who had been hammered 2-0 in Sri Lanka, gave India one of the biggest upsets in test history. Not only they won their maiden test series in India, snapping India’s 12-year series winning streak at home, the Black Caps consigned India to their first-ever 0-3 whitewash at home. A historic and shameful loss.
Optimism was then raised for a comeback when Jasprit Bumrah marched the team to a famous test match win in Perth in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
However, with the batsmen failing in every game, Pat Cummins’ side rocked back to dominate the next four tests. Australia won the series by 3-1 as India managed to post over 200 runs only twice in nine innings.
With this, Australia defeated India in a test series for the first time since 2014/15, reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that India had held since 2017, and booked their place in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, where India had hoped to reach for the third time in a row.
What next for India?
Next up is a dose of white-ball matches. India will host England for five T20Is and a three-match ODI series before flying to Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The players will then engage in the IPL 2025.
When is India’s next test series?
India’s next test series is against England. India will tour England for a five-match test series from June 20 to August 4.
India tour of England 2025 schedule:
1st test: 20th – 24th June, Headingley, Leeds
2nd test: 2nd – 6th July, Edgbaston, Birmingham
3rd test: 10th – 14th July, Lord’s, London
4th test: 23rd – 27th July, Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester
5th test: 31st July – 4th August, The Kia Oval, London
