South Africa T20 League (SA20 2027) is set to return for its fifth season in January 2027, and all six franchises have finalised their squads in the auction.
The auction took place on October 7, with several big names going under the hammer. 156 players were shortlisted for the auction from an initial pool of 789 cricketers.
The list included South African players and several overseas stars. The auction also saw some major names find new teams. Faf du Plessis returned to Joburg Super Kings. Meanwhile, Kieron Pollard was picked by the same franchise.
MI Cape Town also added Trent Boult, Shimron Hetmyer and Wiaan Mulder to their squad. Jason Rowles was the most expensive player at the auction after being bought by JSK for R2.9 million.
With the auction concluded and the squads for all six teams finalised, attention has now shifted to the overseas players who will feature in the upcoming season.

No Indian players are included in the SA20 2027 auction list; consequently, none of the six franchises have selected an Indian cricketer for the upcoming season. 61 overseas players participated in the auction, but none of them were from India.
The main reason behind the absence of Indian players is the BCCI’s policy regarding participation in overseas T20 leagues.
Active Indian cricketers are not allowed to play in overseas franchise leagues while they are still playing international or domestic cricket in India. Indian players can participate in overseas leagues only after retiring from all forms of cricket.
This rule has also impacted the SA20, even though the league has strong ties to Indian cricket through six franchises backed by the IPL.
Dinesh Karthik remains the only Indian player to have featured in the tournament. He played for Paarl Royals in the 2025 season after retiring from all forms of cricket. However, there will be no Indian player in the 2027 edition.
