Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player to debut in IPL at the age of 14 years and 23 days.

On April 19, 2025, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history as the youngest player ever to debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At just 14 years and 23 days old, he took the field for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their home game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Stepping in for Sanju Samson, Suryavanshi opened the innings in pursuit of a 181-run target. Facing Shardul Thakur on the fourth ball of the chase, he struck an impressive six, becoming only the 10th batter in the IPL history — and the fourth Indian — to hit a six on their first ball in the league.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Journey to the IPL

Born on March 27, 2011, in Tajpur, Bihar, Vaibhav developed a passion for cricket at a young age. His father, a farmer, recognized his talent and supported him by creating a small practice area in their backyard. In a remarkable act of commitment, he sold his land in Motipur to fund Vaibhav’s cricket aspirations.

At age nine, Vaibhav joined a cricket academy in Samastipur. His dedication paid off as he went on to play five First-Class games, six List A matches, and one Twenty20 match. His breakthrough came during the 2024 U19 Asia Cup, where he scored 76 runs off 46 balls against the UAE in Sharjah. He followed this up with a match-winning 67 off 36 balls against Sri Lanka, propelling India to the final against Bangladesh.

Vaibhav made his First-Class debut in January 2024 during Bihar’s Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Mumbai. Later that year, in September, he made his India U-19 debut in a youth test against Australia, scoring a remarkable 104 off 62 balls before being run out.

His century — featuring 14 fours and five sixes — was the fastest by an Indian teenager, second only to England’s Moeen Ali, who scored a 56-ball ton in 2005.

Rajasthan Royals’ Historic Signing

The IPL 2025 mega auction saw Vaibhav shortlisted as the youngest player ever. RR had scouted him during try-outs in Nagpur, and his evident talent sparked a bidding war with Delhi Capitals. Eventually, RR secured him for an astonishing amount of INR 1.1 crores.

Vaibhav’s rise from a small village to cricket’s grandest stage marks him as a promising future star in Indian cricket.
