KL Rahul injury: Who will captain LSG in absence of Rahul ?
KL Rahul suffered an injury while fielding against RCB on Monday night.
Lucknow Super Giants' regular skipper, KL Rahul suffered an injury to his hip-flexor in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore last night. The incident took place during the last ball of the second over when Faf du Plessis played a drive through the cover region. KL Rahul gave it a chase just before he pulled his muscles. Rahul fell to the ground immediately, withering in pain as few of his teammates came to attend him. KL Rahul walked off for the whole innings and didn't even come to bat at the top of the order. He was out to bat only when the last wicket was left and seemed to be in trouble.
LSG have had a decent campaign thus far. With 10 points out of their nine games done, LSG stand at the third notch in the points table. They will next play Chennai Super Kings tomorrow, 3rd May. It is likely that KL Rahul will miss the match which will be a huge blow to the franchise. In his absence, Krunal Pandya took over the reigns in the game against RCB and it is all likelihood that he might take over in the upcoming games as well.
Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran are in line to take LSG's leash
Quinton de Kock, who is yet to play a game this season, might break into the team for his captaincy credentials. Having led franchises across the globe and international team, Quinton de Kock might be a perfect choice for the role although some other overseas choice will have to make way for him in order to accommodate him. Another interesting choice can be of Nicholas Pooran who has led his national side and other franchises as well. His red-hot form can serve as a benefit to the team since they won't have to tinker with their four overseas selection as well. Pooran has a had decent stint as a captain in the small sample size he has.
Given the balance and experience of the team, it is expected that Krunal Pandya will be taking the command in his hands. Although he does not have prior experience leading a side in IPL, his awareness of the home conditions and local players might win him the case. In the last match against RCB, Krunal was given the charge once KL Rahul went off the field.
It will also be noteworthy, with what combination will LSG field in their next game. Who will replace KL Rahul in the XI - a batter or an extra bowler?
