Mohali Kings pulled out an extraordinary chase in the inaugural match of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 league.
The inaugural Sher-E-Punjab T20 League 2026 began in spectacular fashion as the first match was played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The domestic T20 tournament has been arranged by the Punjab Cricket Association. The tournament brought together the six city-based franchises and will feature 27 matches between 30th of August and 13th of September.
The opening game of the inaugural season saw Amritsar Soormas take on Mohali Kings in a high-scoring contest. With several prominent players currently being part of the tournament, all these players are domestically part of the Punjab Cricket Association.
Amritsar produced an imposing total of 258 in the first match, powered by an explosive innings from their skipper Abhishek Sharma. However, what turned out to be a historic chase in the very first game, the Mohali Kings led by Ramandeep Singh reached the target, finishing 262/5 in 19.3 overs.

3. Abhishek Sharma – 77 off 26 balls
Although Amritsar Soormas ended up on the losing side, their skipper Abhishek Sharma delivered one of the finest innings of the match. He smashed 77 off just 26 balls, including six fours and seven sixes, with a smashing strike rate of 296.15.
His blitz was helped by the other batters, Naman Dhir and Sahaj Dhawan, who helped Amritsar post a massive target of 259 runs in their very first match of the season.
2. Ramandeep Singh – 69* off 40 balls
Ramandeep Singh provided the perfect support to the Anmolpreet innings. He absorbed a lot of pressure while chasing such a massive total. The Mohali captain assured his side a win with an unbeaten 69, striking at 172.50.
His ability to score runs at a regular rate makes him a crucial player. The skipper delivered a captain’s knock as he not only rotated the strike but also attacked from the other end. He hit nine fours and one six during his match-winning innings.
1. Anmolpreet Singh – 133 off 51 balls
Despite so many strong performances, there was very little doubt about the Player of the Match. Anmolpreet Singh, the Punjab middle-order batter, produced a breathtaking assault in the inaugural game, smashing 133 runs off just 51 balls.
In his innings, he hit 10 fours and 12 sixes, with an incredible strike rate of 260.78. His century also laid the foundation for Mohali’s extraordinary chase. His composed innings marked the maiden century of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 tournament.
