Jofra Archer was released by Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024 auction.

The auction for the 17th edition of Indian Premier League is set to take place in two weeks. IPL 2024 auction will be held in Dubai on December 19. A total of 1,166 stars registered themselves to come under the hammer at the event. All the best players from across the globe have registered themselves for the auction, but one name that decided to skip it, was English ace pacer Jofra Archer.

The 28-year-old is one of the biggest names in modern-day cricket. But his injury-prone body is one of his biggest issues. Well, the pacer decided not to participate in the auction. He was part of Mumbai Indians and played a few matches before the recurrence of an elbow stress fracture during IPL 2023.

Jofra Archer didn’t register for the IPL 2024 auction

Jofra Archer was part of English team for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as a reserve but didn’t get drafted into the main squad. There are a total of 34 English stars registered for IPL 2024 auction, but not Archer. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants to look after the pacer and his rehab as much as possible so that he can be a part of English team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Archer signed a two-year central contract with England for October 2023 to September 2025. ECB director, Rob Key, revealed that it will be easier to manage the workload of the pacer when he is in England. In an interview, he said, “You don’t want to risk rushing something to see that kid for the rest of his career.” We take that bet with him that we want him back fit and able to play for England because of the upside. You start looking at things like the Ashes in two years, the T20 World Cup… Jofra adds so much to that.”

There are a few assignments to feature for the pacer before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. England will play four T20Is at home in May, and he can also play in the 2nd XI county T20 competition, which can prove his match-fitness. The pacer is also part of MI Cape Town for the second edition of SA20. However, his participation will totally depend on how he recovers. He will be with English team for West Indies T20Is but will not feature in the series.
