Right-arm pacer Prasidh Krishna is 309th player to represent India in longest form of the game.

Ravindra Jadeja’s injury has forced Indian team management to tweak their plan for the first test against South Africa. Jadeja is missing the first test at Supersport park in Centurion due to a upper-back spasm. Team India decided to field 4 pace bowlers and one spinner for the series opener in Centurion and Prasidh Krishna got lucky as he was handed the test cap number 309 for India.

Team India’s pace attack is led by Jasprit Bumrah. Along with Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna are also part of the playing XI for the first test match. Mukesh Kumar has missed out on selection for the first test as team management showed big trust on Prasidh Krishna.

Why Prasidh Krishna?

The 27-year-old pacer bowler Prasidh Krishan didn’t have a proper first-class grooming before being given his test debut in such a big tour. Prasidh Krishna has played only 12 first-class games for his state side Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy and has picked up 54 wickets. Krishna made his first-class debut for Karnataka in 2015 and in 8 years he has played only 12 red-ball games.

Prasidh has been a magnificent bowler for India in the white-ball cricket and has been a regular member of the squad. Krishna has played 17 ODI games for India and picked up 29 wickets while in 5 T20I games, Krishna has taken 8 wickets in his career so far. Krishna has also done well in the prestigious Indian Premier League.

Indian fans were also a bit surprised to see Prasidh Krishna getting an edge over Mukesh Kumar in Indian playing XI. Team management expects Prasidh Krishna to provide a bit more bounce.
