Romario Shepherd’s name not being there in the team sheet for WI vs NEP clash in T20 World Cup 2026 caught many by surprise.
The West Indies Cricket Team are up against the Nepal Cricket Team in match 25 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The game between the two teams is underway at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, February 15.
The WI vs NEP game holds great value for both teams in the context of their qualification for the Super 8 round of the tournament. While, the West Indies need one win to go ahead, Nepal hang by a thread and need this win to stay alive in the tournament.
West Indies have looked in top form in the T20 World Cup 2026, having won their first two games against Scotland and England. Nepal, on the other hand, came very close to winning against England, but were thrashed by Italy in their second fixture.
Why did Romario Shepherd miss the WI vs NEP clash in the T20 World Cup 2026?
Coming into the game, both teams made some noticeable changes and one of West Indies caught many by attention. Romario Shepherd, who took a hat-trick against Scotland, missed the game with Matthew Forde replacing him in the XI.
West Indies captain Shai Hope, at the toss, confirmed that Romario Shepherd missed out of the WI vs NEP clash in T20 World Cup 2026 due to niggle. He added that the all-rounder has rested on a precautionary measure. He said:
“Yes, one change. Shepherd out, Matthew Forde comes in. Slight little niggle, Shepherd’s been struggling a little bit, but we just want to make sure precautionary measures are being in place and Forde can come in and do the job. So we’re very happy to give him some rest today.“
West Indies would hope that Shepherd’s absence won’t leave a massive void in the XI for WI vs NEP. The all-rounder has been in a great form with bat and ball in the tournament. However, thankfully for the West Indies, the niggle isn’t a serious one and he is expected to be back for the next game.
