Dhoni has been sidelined since the start of IPL 2026 due to a calf strain, which ruled him out of the opening phase of the tournament. At that time, it was reported that he will miss at least 5-6 games for CSK but since the last few days he has been putting in the hard yards in nets.

This has raised speculations about his comeback with many even saying that he might play the CSK vs DC clash of IPL 2026. The match will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, April 11.

According to the recent updates, Dhoni is getting closer to returning. But, wont be playing against DC. The reports in Revsportz has suggested that he will be fit for the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH)on April 18.

Recently, CSK‘s head coach, Stephen Fleming, also said that the team is taking time with Dhoni’s recovery. The management has not in any way hastened him back to the field of play, and instead, it has put more emphasis on his complete fitness rather than getting him back sooner, particularly with the level of activity required on the field.

The former skipper’s absence has been felt by CSK in terms of both leadership and balance. While Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to lead the side, Dhoni’s experience behind the stumps and in high-pressure situations remains a key factor for the team.

There is no clear confirmation yet from the franchise regarding his inclusion in the playing XI. Reports over the past few days have suggested that while he is recovering well, he has not yet reached full match fitness, leaving his availability uncertain.

For the CSK, it will probably be determined by the outcome of the pre-match fitness assessment and overall team balance. In the early stage of the tournament, the management may choose to avoid risking Dhoni unless he is fully fit.
