Shakib Al Hasan is one of the two players to have played in all editions of T20 World Cup so far.

Shakib Al Hasan has finally shared his plans for his cricketing future ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Shakib has played all editions of the T20 World Cup thus far right from the first one in 2007.

The 37-year-old all-rounder and former Bangladesh captain has played 122 T20Is and scored 2440 runs with 12 fifties to his name. His highest score is 84 and his strike rate is 121.93. With the ball, Shakib has 146 wickets with best bowling figures of 5/20 and an economy of 6.78.

Leading up to the 2024 T20 World Cup, there were rumors that this global T20I event could be Shakib’s last, as he and Rohit Sharma are the only two players to have appeared in every edition of the ICC T20 World Cup so far.

Shakib Al Hasan, who is now the highest wicket-taker in tournament history with 47 wickets in 36 matches, has only hinted at the possibility of prolonging his international career in T20 cricket.

I can play another World Cup: Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has hinted at playing in the next T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

Shakib recently discussed deciding on his international career after the 2025 Champions Trophy, but in this conversation, he also mentioned looking ahead to the next T20 World Cup.

“Firstly, when I started I didn’t expect that I will play for so long and secondly since the start of T20 Cricket World Cup till this T20 World Cup, I have participated in all them along with Rohit Sharma. It is a matter of pride for me and I’m happy that I could represent the country.

Me and Rohit Sharma are the only two players who played all the T20 World Cups and I hope that I can play another World Cup but before that would like to perform well in the tournament and Bangladesh can do better than in previous T20 tournament,” Shakib was quoted in a video uploaded in BCB’s Facebook page on Friday.

Shakib, who spends most of his time in the United States because his family is there, said that he expects Bangladesh to perform well in the event, given that the wickets would be comparable to those they play on at home.

“It is alright that the USA is my second home but it is difficult to say I think we will get that because earlier when we played in the West Indies and America we did well and we played in Florida we did well. We always get favour their because those pitches are quite similar to ours back home. I hope we will get advantage in both the places,” he said.

Bangladesh will clash with India in a warmup game on June 1 in New York.
