The Women’s Premier League has established itself as one of the biggest platforms in women’s cricket. This has emerged as a platform for leading international players who share a competitive platform with emerging domestic talents.

WPL season 5 auction to be held in Kochi

According to Cricbuzz journalist Vijay Tagore, the BCCI has informed the WPL franchises that the Season 5 auction will take place on October 28 in Kochi.
This development gives the franchises a confirmed date and location for one of the crucial phases in the Women’s Premier League. Several teams will be working hard to make some changes to their squad.
The Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the two teams who have emerged as victorious in the Women’s Premier League. Both these teams have won two seasons each; however, the other franchises are yet to win the title.
The WPL has traditionally attracted considerable interest during its auctions, with Indian youngsters competing alongside established international stars for franchise contracts. Hence, for the franchises, the period leading up to 28th of October is a crucial phase for player development.
The uncertainty surrounding the match venues means there are still important pieces of the Season 5 puzzle to be confirmed. The BCCI are expected to make further announcements regarding the schedule and locations of the match. Mumbai and Baroda are likely to host the matches, though they remain subject to confirmation.
If Mumbai and Baroda are eventually selected, the tournament could once again follow a multi-city format, allowing the league to reach different cricketing audiences.
For now, though, the key update is the auction date and venue that are confirmed and the tournament venues which are expected to follow.
