The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 is beginning to take shape, with the BCCI announcing the key dates for the fifth edition. The BCCI have revealed the dates for the upcoming auction as well as the starting dates of the tournament.
Four seasons have so far been played in the Women’s Premier League history, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians women emerging as the champions on two occasions each. The player auction will be the first major milestone before the start of the tournament.
WPL 2027: Start date and schedule

The fifth season of the WPL will begin on January 14, as per the latest revelations of the BCCI. The tournament is scheduled to run until February 7, 2027. The BCCI has confirmed this window, although the complete match-by-match fixture list has not yet been released.
The tournament will once again feature five teams who are destined to play eight matches each in the group stages, with two matches against every opposition. The top three teams qualify for the playoffs. While the group-stage toppers seal a direct spot in the finals, the teams in the second and third positions are destined to compete in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the WPL 2027 player auction will take place on October 28, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi. Before that, franchises must submit their retention and release decisions by September 28, as per BCCI’s latest diktat.
WPL 2027: Venues
Though nothing has officially been confirmed as the venues for the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League by the BCCI, the two venues, Mumbai and Vadodara, have emerged as the current leading options.
Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara are the two venues that are reportedly in contention to host the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League. Varanasi has also emerged as another possibility, with the BCCI exploring the prospect of expanding the WPL to a completely unfamiliar territory.
WPL 2027: Squads
Following the mega-auction in the 2026 season, the teams have already witnessed several iconic changes to their squad. Despite that, the upcoming player auction will provide another opportunity for teams to rethink their combinations.
Every franchise is allowed to have a maximum of 18 players in their squad, while no more than six of those players can be overseas. Also, the current salary cap for the cycle has been finalised at INR 15 crores.
