WPL: List of all winners in Women's Premier League history

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) witnessed its first edition in 2023.

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is a franchise T20 tournament in India organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The tournament, intended to develop women’s cricket in India, observed its maiden edition in 2023.

The WPL features five city-based franchise teams battling for the title. They are the Mumbai Indians (MI) Women, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women, Delhi Capitals (DC) Women, UP Warriorz (UPW), and Gujarat Giants (GG).

This tournament follows the same format as the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hence, each team face the other teams twice. However, unlike the IPL, there are no Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 games in the playoffs.

In WPL, the top team in the points table bags a direct spot in the final, while the second and third-placed teams clash in the Eliminator. The winner of the Eliminator is the second finalist. Below is the complete list of WPL winners since the maiden edition in 2023.

MI Women were the first champions of the tournament in the 2023 edition. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, they finished second in the points table after the league stage.

In the Eliminator, they outplayed UP Warriorz like a walk in the park. After piling up a respectable total of 182/4 in the first innings, they bowled out the opposition for just 110 runs.

In the summit clash, they dominated DC Women with their bowling in the first innings, restricting them to 131/9. Issy Wong and Hayley Matthews clinched three-wicket hauls. Nat Sciver-Brunt scored an unbeaten 60 runs to propel MI Women to victory like a piece of cake by seven wickets.

WPL 2024 is remembered for RCB‘s spectacular comeback. They booked a berth in the playoffs by finishing in third place in the points table. The Smriti Mandhana & Co. crushed MI Women by just five runs in the thrilling Eliminator, defending their first innings total of 135/6.

The final was more of a one-sided affair, where RCB chased down a 114-run target by eight wickets. Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux, with four and three wickets respectively, played a key role in bundling out DC Women cheaply in the first innings.

From finishing in the third place in the points table to lifting the trophy, RCB showcased a superb turnaround towards the end of the tournament.

After finishing second in the points table, MI Women outplayed Gujarat Giants Women in the Eliminator by a huge margin of 47 runs, defending their mammoth 213-run total.

In the final, MI failed to go big batting first, piling up 149/7 in the first innings with a hard-fought half-century by Kaur (66). However, they bounced back with stunning teamwork in bowling, halting DC Women at 141/9, and won the match by eight runs.
