Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fell after a well made 45 in Colombo.

Yashasvi Jaiswal found himself at the centre of a heated moment during the second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. The Indian opener had started positively in the second Test after being dismissed for a duck in the second innings of the first Test. 

Against the Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando, the Indian opener, scored three boundaries early. After having conceded three boundaries to Jaiswal, he bounced back with his final delivery, dismissing the batter. Bowling from round the wicket, he bowled it on a length that curved back into the left-handed batter.

What led to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s animated exchange with Sri Lankan players?

After the dismissal, Jaiswal followed with an animated exchange with the Sri Lankan players. What began as a competitive battle between bat and ball quickly turned into a confrontation between players. There was a body contact between the two players as they got too close to each other’s face, coming head to head and exchanging a few words.

Jaiswal was dismissed for 45 after having set the tone of the Indian innings with the early flurry following KL Rahul’s early dismissal in this game. However, the left-hander once again missed out short of a big score due to his early temptation of taking down a bowler.

After the Sri Lankan bowler dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, he celebrated enthusiastically, having removed the set batter. The two then exchanged a few words, as the Indian opener looked unhappy with the manner of the dismissal and the subsequent reaction. 

Jaiswal’s dismissal turned out to be significant for the Indian team, as India lost their second wicket, losing their second opener after KL Rahul. At one stage when Jaiswal was batting, India looked like it was riding the horse racing towards the hundred-run mark; however, after his dismissal, the innings collapsed. 

The brief confrontation also highlighted the fine line between competitive aggression and unnecessary on-field exchanges. The exchange between the two players appeared to be a moment of heat, but it nevertheless became one of the notable points in the first session of the opening session in Colombo.
