Pick Yashasvi Jaiswal for T20 WC 2024, give Rinku Singh more time: Gautam Gambhir

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 171 on his test debut against West Indies earlier this month.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a consistent performer on the domestic side for years now. Ever since his impressive run in the U19 World Cup three years ago, Jaiswal has been dominating domestic circuits and has grown a lot in his career.

In the recently concluded Indian Premier League, Jaiswal grabbed everyone's attention by scoring 626 runs from 14 innings with a strike rate close to 164. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, Jaiswal also scored an IPL century in 2023.

Talking about his performances, Gautam Gambhir said that the Indian cricketer deserves an opportunity to feature in the T20I side for the World Cup. He appreciated Jaiswal's consistency and said that the people take IPL seriously and they don't look into domestic records these days.

"In India, the issue is that we take the 2 months of IPL so seriously that whoever does well we add him to the Indian team. Jaiswal has scored a double hundred in domestic cricket both in First Class and One-Day matches," Gambhir said to News18.

Jaiswal made it to the Indian side after his performance in the IPL 2023. He was picked up for Tests as well. Jaiswal repaid the faith by scoring 171 on his Test debut in Dominica. The youngster won the player of the match as India scripted a massive victory against the host side.

Let Rinku score runs in the domestic season and then return to IPL: Gambhir

Gambhir mentioned that it is important to look into the domestic season and not only IPL performances. Therefore, he warned against picking up Rinku Singh for the team and wants him to prove consistency in domestic cricket.

"Rinku Singh's story is inspiring and he has performed well as well. But do not select anyone after one season. Let Rinku score runs in the domestic season and then return to IPL and score runs again and if he is consistent then you can think of adding him to the Indian team," Gambhir concluded.

Rinku Singh was also a star performer in this year's IPL. The youngster has amassed 725 runs in his 31 IPL matches with an average close to 37. The 25-year-old averages over 50 in both List A and First Class cricket. In T20s, he has notched up 1768 runs from 81 innings with a strike rate close to 141.
