The Selecao are currently second in Group A, behind on goal difference.
The USA vs Brazil clash at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup lived up to its hype in context to the iconic senior women’s team rivalry that the world has witnessed over the years. Natalia Astrain’s side were fully prepared to get their second win of the tournament, but Brazil had other plans.
Special mention goes out to Brazil’s last line of defence Leilane who stopped everything that came her way and stood tall like a wall. It was an equally poised contest between the top two teams of Group A.
Nicollette Kiorpes scored for the stars, while Carol brought her side back on level terms with a mouth-watering strike from outside the box.
After the game, Carol spoke to the media and shared her thoughts on the game.
Scoring against USA
Scoring against the USA is a difficult task in itself. Carol scored the only goal that the USA have conceded at the tournament so far. Sharing her thoughts on her goal she said that she was really happy as it was a tough game, but now the focus shifts to the next match (against India).
“I’m very happy because it was a very tough game and now it’s time to focus and look forward to the next game (against India),” she asserted.
Objectives for the tournament
Carol also shared her objective for the remainder of the tournament. She said that she is not focusing on any individual objectives as her only objective is to help the team in any possible way. Carol also stated that even if she doesn’t score, she needs to help the team in playing well.
“My only objective in the World Cup is to play very well and help the team. I scored the goal very well, but even if I don't score, it’s important to help the team” she said.
Thoughts on the game
The game between the USA and Brazil was by far the most entertaining game of Group A. It was a neck-to-neck competition as both sides had a lot of chances to go ahead. Sharing her thoughts on game, Carol said:
“Both teams played very well and in the second half everyone was a little bit tired. We had a lot of chances and we could have scored to win the game,” she concluded.
