The Red & Golds haven't defeated the Mariners since 2019.

ATK Mohun Bagan picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over rivals East Bengal to win the first Kolkata Derby of the Indian Super League (ISL) season. Two second half goals from Hugo Boumous and Manvir Singh were enough to help the Mariners secure bragging rights and move into the top-four of the ISL table.

Let's take a look at how the teams fared today!

ATK Mohun Bagan (By Uttiyo Sarkar)

Vishal Kaith – 8.0

The ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper kept his cool under tense circumstances. He made a brilliant save to deny Semboi’s header in the first half. His ability to come off the line and make clearances was also vital to frustrating the visitors and getting his side a comfortable win.

Asish Rai – 5.0

Rai wasn’t all that convincing as he struggled to keep up with Mahesh Singh or contribute to the attack. He improved as the game went on, getting more control in the second half – but left much to be desired.

Pritam Kotal – 6.5

The experienced defender was quite calm and assertive with his work against his arch-rival side. Kotal kept a close check on Cleiton Silva to neutralize his threat and leapt up on many occasions to come up with vital challenges.

Brendan Hamill – 7.5

Hamill seemed to thrive of the intensity of the Kolkata Derby and commanded his backline with authority. He made six clearances and had a 90% passing accuracy, pinging the ball forward with ease. He seems to be finally thriving in Ferrando’s system.

Subhasish Bose – 8.0

Another local boy with the knowledge of how special the derby is, Subhasish put in an admirable performance. He was a rock at the back, nullifying the threat of both VP Suhair and Aniket Jadhav. The left-back made six clearances, two blocks and two interceptions – ruling the roost on his wing.

Deepak Tangri – 7.0

Tangri was sharp with his work in midfield, helping move the ball around swiftly and aid with the ball progression. He made two tackles and two blocks, as well as maintaining an 88% pass accuracy in a solid outing. He gifted an assist for Boumous’ opener.

Joni Kauko – 7.0

The Finland midfielder was pumped up by the vibrant support of the crowd, which seemed to energize him. Kauko helped his side dominate the midfield battle, hassling the East Bengal midfielders and regaining possession with authority. He made three tackles and four clearances, as well as moving the ball into the final third really well.

Hugo Boumous – 9.0

In the biggest ISL game possible, Boumous decided to show how good he can be. The ATKMB no.10 operated at a higher level than the others, waltzing past players with ease. He created an insane six goal-scoring chances, finding empty space for his teammates and breaking the East Bengal backline with ease. Boumous capped up a brilliant performance with a fortunate, but thunderous strike to give his side the lead.

Manvir Singh – 7.5

Manvir was all over the right-wing and put in a lot of hard work to help his side win the key battles. He tracked back to neutralize East Bengal’s attack through the left and was electric in the counter-attacks too. He capitalized on the big chance he got in the second half, with his powerful shot taking two deflections to double his side’s lead.

Liston Colaco – 6.0

Unfortunately for Liston, it was a case of all work and no reward on the day. The India international was a menacing force on the left, making some darting runs into the final third. He did create a few chances, but his final product was awry on the day – with his attempts brazing wide.

Dimitri Petratos – 7.0

Coming into the game on the back of his hat-trick heroics against Kerala Blasters, Petratos was under strict marking. But he moved around cleverly in the final third, finding space and helping his teammates excel. He created three chances and played a key pass leading to the second goal.

Substitutes

Ashique Kuruniyan – 6.0

Ashique added more directness and pace to his side’s left-wing after replacing Liston, but was unable to be involved in anything special.

Lenny Rodrigues – 7.0

Lenny helped settle things down in midfield and contributed defensively when the visitors kept looking for goals. He made a key goal-saving clearance and looked sharp in midfield.

Florentin Pogba – N/A

The Frenchman came on in the final 15 minutes of the game and looked comfortable, pinging the ball around and saving his side from conceding goals.

Carl McHugh – N/A

Like Pogba, McHugh was also brought on to keep his side’s two-goal lead in tact and did just that.

East Bengal FC (By Souvari Paul)

Kamaljit Singh - 4.5

It will be a forgettable night for Kamaljit as it was his howler from which ATK Mohun Bagan scored their first goal. Among the total shots faced, he was able to make only three saves and conceded twice. The goalkeeper’s position might become a cause of worry for Constantine now.

Sarthak Golui - 9.0

Sarthak Golui was one of the bright spots for East Bengal in the derby. He made good runs on the right and provided stability to the right side of his defence. He had the highest number of touches and passes for his side, those being 83 and 36 respectively. Further, he made two successful tackles, six clearances, two successful interceptions, and blocked three shots.

Lalchungnunga - 7.5

Lalchungnunga had a relatively good day today compared to his team. He was able to make one tackle and two clearances. He also blocked two shots. However, a lack of composure from his side led to conceding two goals. .

Ivan Gonzalez - 7

It was a mixed outing for Ivan today. Even though he himself played well, his team conceded twice under his watch. He did his part well in defence by making two successful tackles, one clearance and three successful interceptions. He also blocked two shots.

Jerry Lalrinzuala  - 7.5

Jerry also had a very good outing on the left flank. On the offence, he took three shots in total, none of which were on target. In defence, he made one successful tackle, three clearances, and two successful interceptions.

VP Suhair - 5.0

It was a bad game for VP Suhair as his dry patch continued to this game. He was not much effective in the attacking third for East Bengal. Suhair was able to take only one shot in the whole match, which was wide. Constantine was forced to take him off in the 70th minute.

Charalambos Kyriakou - 6.5

Kyriakou could not repeat his heroics from the last game. He was able to make only one clearance and two interceptions. He was not much effective on the offence also as he registered only one shot throughout the game.

Jordan O’Doherty - 8.5

O’Doherty looked lively in the heart of East Bengal’s midfield. He tried to make runs, play through balls, and tried to counter whenever possible. He took one shot, which was blocked. The 25-year-old took three corners, made two successful tackles and interceptions each, and blocked one shot. Unfortunately, he suffered from a lack of support.

Naorem Mahesh Singh - 6.5

Naorem had a relatively off day at office today. A lack of cohesion in East Bengal midfield meant Naorem was not able to do much on his own. Still, he whipped in four crosses, took four corners, and led to the creation of one chance. None of his crosses got converted though.

Cleiton Silva - 5.5

Cleiton looked very alone on the field. The team was not able to provide him much support throughout the game, due to which he was able to register only one shot. Barring a few moments of the first half, he was largely silent today.

Semboi Haokip - 4.0

Semboi would like to forget his derby day performance. He was not effective in any third of the pitch. Throughout the match, his only contribution was a single shot, which is not satisfactory in a derby match. A header in the first half, which was saved brilliantly by Kaith, was perhaps the finest moment for the player on the pitch.

Substitutes

Aniket Jadhav - 3.5

It was a bad comeback game for Aniket. Constantine could have given him some game time before bringing him on directly in the derby match. He was not effective on the offence and was not able to make any significant contribution to the side’s attack.

Souvik Chakrabarti - 4.5

Souvik was on the pitch for around 20 minutes. He was not able to make any significant contribution in any third of the pitch in this period.

Eliandro - 4.0

It was not the game Eliandro would have wished for a comeback. He was clearly not fully fit and was unable to exert any pressure on ATK Mohun Bagan’s defence.

Tuhin Das - N/A

Tuhin got only eight minutes of game-time today. He was not able to impact the game.

Alex Lima - N/A

Lima got around only seven minutes to change the game, which was not enough for him.
