I-League 2022-23: Full schedule, fixtures, results, points table and venue details

The competition will kick-off with a blockbuster clash between the defending champions and last season's runners-up.

I-League 2022-23 will return to its traditional home-away format for the first time since 2020. The league will unfold its 16th edition on November 12 in Malappuram with defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC hosting Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting.

The Malabarians created history by becoming the first side ever to defend their crown in the 2021-22 edition by beating the same opponents on the final matchday. They became the first side in 14 years to do so in Indian football league's history.

With a new season almost upon us, we take a look at everything you need to know about I-League 2022-23.

About the League

The I-League was India’s only club football league before the introduction of the high-profile Indian Super League (ISL) in 2014. It came into existence in 2007, succeeding the National Football League (NFL).

Unlike the ISL, the I-League has a proper football plan in place with promotion and relegation taking place every season through the I-League second division/I-League qualifiers. The league has had seven winners ever since its inception.

Dempo FC won the title a record three times followed by Churchill Brothers, Bengaluru FC, Mohun Bagan and Gokulam Kerala - all of who have won the title twice. Chennai City FC, Salgaocar, Aizawl FC, Minerva Punjab have won the championship once.

The competition was played behind closed doors for the last two seasons due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last season, the league was stopped due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the bio bubble in December before being resumed in February 2022.

One major change that will be seen in this year's competition will be the exclusion of the AIFF's developmental side - the Indian Arrows. Kenkre FC, who were relegated last season, have been allowed to participate in the league this year due to the exit of the Arrows.

Teams

A total of 12 teams are participating in the I-League 2022-23. Among them is Kenkre FC, who were relegated last season, but were allowed to participate in the I-League this season. Meanwhile, AIFF's developmental team Indian Arrows have been dismantled and will no longer be participating in the I-League. The teams are as follows:

Telecast

The 2022-23 season of the I-League will be broadcast on two different television channels for the first time in the history of the competition, with the matches set to be shown on Eurosport and Doordarshan Sports. Discovery+ will be live streaming the competition.
