Both teams have suffered losses in their previous game at home.
Chennaiyin FC will welcome Jamshedpur FC to the Marina Arena in Chennai for their second ISL 2022-23 home game in a row. The Marina Machans will be nursing their wounds from a humbling 2-6 defeat at the hands of Des Buckingham's Mumbai City.
Both teams have played five games this season. Chennaiyin FC are a win above Jamshedpur FC in the table. Therefore, this game provides an excellent chance for the home side to establish their playoff spot. For Jamshedpur FC, it is a chance to give an impetus to their season which has been stop-start, to say the least so far.
It proves to be an enticing encounter at the Marina Arena. So let's look at how both teams shape ahead of the big game.
The Stakes
Chennaiyin FC
Thomas Brdaric's men have had a mixed start to the season so far. They won their games in Kolkata against East Bengal and ATK Mohun Bagan. On the other hand, though, they have lost both their home games so far. Both were humbling defeats against FC Goa and Mumbai City, especially the latter.
The Marina Machans were hit for six by Mumbai and will find it tough to come out of such a huge defeat. They now face a Jamshedpur FC team which is struggling for consistency. This provides a chance for them to gain three important points which will establish them well within the playoff spots.
Jamshedpur FC
Aidy Boothroyd's men have endured a frustrating start to the season so far. They will look to add some consistency to their campaign. The Men of Steel have some quality players at their disposal. But they miss some cohesion in the squad.
A win against the Marina Machans in their home would prove to be a shot in the arm for Aidy Boothroyd's men. They also face a Chennaiyin FC side who are still licking their wounds from the battering they received at the hands of Mumbai City. Hence, they will look to add more misery for Chennaiyin FC at home.
Team News
Chennaiyin FC welcome Vafa Hakhamaneshi back into the squad after the Iranian missed out on their previous game due to suspension. They still have Kwame Karikari and Narayan Das out due to injury.
Head-to-Head
Chennaiyin FC have the wood over the Men of Steel with four wins to Jamshedpur FC's three. This fixture has also been quite a high-scoring spectacle with both teams scoring 12 goals against each other.
Probable Line-ups
Chennaiyin FC: Devansh Dabas (GK), Ajith Kumar, Fallou Diagne, Vafa Hakhamaneshi, Aakash Sangwan, Jiteshwor Singh, Julius Duker, Prasanth Karuthadathkuni, Anirudh Thapa, Rahim Ali, Petar Sliskovic
Jamshedpur FC: TP Rehenesh (GK), Laldinliana Renthlei, Pratik Chaudhari, Peter Hartley, Ricky Lallawmawma, PC Laldinpuia, Jitendra Singh, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Harry Sawyer, Boris Singh Thangjam, Daniel Chima Chukwu
Man to Watch
Jiteshwor Singh (Chennaiyin FC)
The young midfielder has been arguably one of the best signings of the season so far. He has barely put a foot wrong for the Marina Machans this season. The young midfielder has won close to six tackles per game and completed 46 passes per game. His creditable 75% pass accuracy will surely improve with experience in the ISL.
More than the stats though, Jiteshwor exudes class and temperament which belittles his age. It is quite rare for someone who makes the step up from I-League to the ISL to feel so much at home. His contributions have already proved to be immense for Chennaiyin FC and he will once again be a key component for them against Jamshedpur FC.
Daniel Chima Chukwu (Jamshedpur FC)
Jamshedpur FC have only scored four times this season in their five games. But key among them has been Daniel Chima who has scored two among the four. The Nigerian has been the focal point for the Men of Steel and has continued well from where he left last season.
Chennaiyin FC's defence will be tested by Chima's pace and strength. If he is provided with the right service in the box or anywhere around, you can expect the striker to be a bother all night for Thomas Bradric's men.
