ISL legend Iain Hume announces retirement from football

One of the all-time ISL legends Iain Hume announced his retirement from professional football on 8th November 2022. He briefed the retirement statement to the fans and his colleagues through his social media handle.

Career in India

Iain Hume made his debut in India through Kerala Blasters in 2014. He joined the Indian Super League in its introductory season. Coming to India was one of the best decisions he ever made as he quickly rose to fame here. In Kerala, the fans lovingly called him "Humettan" as a gesture of love and affection towards him.

On 21st October 2014, Hume got into the history books of KBFC by being their first goal-scorer in the league. Notably, his stunning brace in the league took Kerala Blasters to the final where they lost the cup on a narrow margin. He was named "Man of the Tournament" in 2014 for his spectacular performance.

In the following season, he switched his base to Atlético de Kolkata where he spent the next two years. He helped the team win the prestigious ISL trophy in 2016. Hume played for FC Pune City in 2018 which marked his ultimate season in the ISL. He scored a total of 25 goals in 62 career matches in the Indian Super League.

Overall Career

Iain Hume began his professional career at Tranmere Rovers in 1999. He spent his time as a contracted player of Tranmere Rovers for the next six seasons and scored over 32 goals before moving to Leicester City in 2005. The forward played for Leicester City for the following three seasons. He bagged a total of 33 goals before moving to Barnsley FC in 2008.

Fleetwood Town was his last club before moving to India in 2014. He was drafted by Kerala Blasters in the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League.

At the International level, Iain Hume represented Canada in three cycles of World Cup Qualifiers and at three Gold Cups. He featured in 43 matches scoring six goals for his country at the senior level.
