FIFA World Cup 2022: Argentina 1-2 Saudi Arabia Replay

02:00 PM IST: Welcome to the live blog of the FIFA World Cup 2022 group stage match between Argentina vs Saudi Arabia.
Argentina would look to kick off Lionel Messi‘s final International tournament in the best manner possible when they take on Herve Renard’s Saudi Arabia, on 22nd November 2022. The Saudi on the other hand would look to erase memories of the heavy 5-0 opening day loss to Russia in 2018’s opening fixture. They’ve been clubbed with Mexico and Poland and it would be an achievement to not finish bottom of the group, in this close, competitive round of fixtures.

Team News
Argentina will be missing key personnel from the Copa America win last year such as Giovanni Lo Celso(quad), Joaquin Correa(knee), Nicolas Gonzalez(Muscle) etc. However, their replacements are able and promising in the likes of Angel Correa, Thiago Almada, etc. Other key members such as Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes are looking to return to full fitness.
As for Saudi Arabia, Riyadh Sharahili has reportedly sustained a muscular problem. While defender Hassan Tambakti was absent from training recently, putting both under doubtful for the tournament.
Players to watch
Lionel Messi
The PSG star would look to cap off a successful international career by bringing back the desired World Cup to his beloved Argentina, since 1986. The La Albiceleste ended a 28-year wait for an international trophy by beating Brazil in the 2021 Copa America final. Making this the first World Cup they enter as champions of their continent since the 1994 World Cup. Messi was adjudged the best player of the tournament and would be looking to emulate the form from last year, to achieve World Cup glory.
Saleh Al-Shehri
Saudi Arabia would be facing a hard time keeping possession against higher-ranked teams in their group. Hence, they’ll be looking for clinical finishing from striker Saleh Al-Sheri in the final third, especially from counterattack situations. The Al-Hilal man has finished top of the AFC qualifying round scoring charts for his country, a clear standout amongst his teammates.
Head to Head stats
