Jio cinema heavily trolled for poor live streaming of FIFA World Cup opening day
Indian fans were fuming with Jio cinema as it delivered one of the worst quality live streams of the FIFA World Cup 2022 opening ceremony and the match between Qatar and Ecuador.
Reliance Jio won the rights to stream the World Cup live on its app, but the fans had one of the worst experiences during the matchday. The company made Livestream free on its app and also on its site.
As the match went underway, many Indian users faced lagging of the game and constant buffering. However, the app apologised quickly and asked fans to upgrade the Livestream. Some fans even questioned the decision by the broadcasters to live stream the biggest football tournament on an app that has never streamed a big tournament before. The app was not even available on TV's.
"We are continuously working to give you a great experience. Please upgrade your app to the latest version to enjoy #FIFAWorldCupQatar2022. Apologies for any inconvenience," Jio Cinema tweeted.
Fan reactions
Nevertheless, the problem continued, and fans expressed their anger on Twitter. In contrast, Jio Cinema came up with a tweet to reduce the frustrations with a meme.
Few fans stated "Streaming is lagging a lot. I even missed the first two goals of this year's FIFA world cup," one user wrote. "Really disappointed."
While others insisted other apps should be tried and tested, the competitor had received the broadcasting rights. While few are hoping the app will fix its problem in other matches.
It was earlier announced Voot would also live stream the match, but there was no streaming in the app, and fans asked where else can they see the match live "Well, JioCinema is a disaster; where else can we watch the match online in Indian, any idea?'
