The Spaniard was immensely successful as a coach at the club.

Former Bengaluru FC and Hyderabad FC head coach Alberto Roca is set to join Bengaluru FC as their Technical Director. “Albert Roca has been brought in by Bengaluru FC on a short-term deal and he’ll be revamping the situation at the club. Darren Caldeira will be joining Roca's technical team as well,” a source revealed to Khel Now.

Alberto Roca’s journey in India

Albert Roca, 60, coached the Blues to the Indian Super League (ISL) final during his three-year stay at the club. Under Roca, Bengaluru FC also reached the AFC Cup final and lifted the Super Cup and Federation Cup titles.

Roca will return to India after a one-year stint with Barcelona as their fitness and conditioning coach under Ronald Koeman. He left for the Blaugrana after initially signing as the head coach of Hyderabad FC ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Undoubtedly, the 60-year-old had been a phenomenal and impactful figure at the club. With Bengaluru FC currently in a mess, Roca is certainly the right person for the job.

Formerly a head coach at the club, Roca will now play a key role in rejuvenating the Bengaluru FC side as he’ll monitor the things from the helm.

Caldeira joined Bengaluru FC in 2013 as one of their first few additions after the club was established. He won the 2014 I-League title with BFC before being released by the club in 2016. In his career, he played for clubs like Mahindra United, Air India, Mumbai FC, ATK and Chennai City too.

Darren Caldeira last played professional football with Kerala Blasters during the 2019-20 season, before hanging up his boots in 2020.

Thus, Albert Roca and Darren Caldeira’s inclusion into Bengaluru FC will shake up not only their atmosphere but also send out a firm message to their fellow ISL clubs.
