The foreign strikers in particular were clinical for their respective teams.
Another Indian Super League (ISL 2022-23) gameweek came to an end recently. The 2022-23 season is delivering sublime football action every week which is keeping the fans extremely happy. In the past week’s show, several individual players took the stage by storm and single-handedly changed the complexion of the matches.
Whether it was Bartholomew Ogbeche, Jorge Pereyra Diaz or Diego Mauricio, each forward played a crucial role in their team’s win. The Islanders were exceptional against the Yellow Army and regained their top spot in the league table after Hyderabad FC had leapfrogged them by defeating FC Goa earlier.
Odisha FC and Bengaluru FC also recorded wins, thanks to impressive performances by their players. Here is a look at Khel Now's team of the week from ISL 2022-23 gameweek 14:
Goalkeeper: Amrinder Singh (Odisha FC)
Amrinder Singh was key in helping Odisha FC emerge as 3-1 winners against East Bengal. The custodian made five saves and four catches, commanding his box well and advancing whenever required. He made one error but it was overshadowed by his overall performance.
Right centre-back: Mehtab Singh (Mumbai City)
Mumbai City were the only team that kept a clean sheet in the past week. The credit for that goes to Mehtab Singh and his defensive team. It was a solid performance by the centre-back, in which he made three clearances, two interceptions and two blocks. He also had 82 touches on the ball.
Centre-back: Nim Dorjee (Hyderabad FC)
Nim Dorjee was impressive for the Nizams while playing as a centre-back in the absence of Chinglensana Singh. He was quick to resist any FC Goa attack thrown at them and made key tackles to thwart the forwards. The centre-back made seven clearances and two blocks as well.
Left centre-back: Parag Shrivas (Bengaluru FC)
Parag Shrivas performed well for Bengaluru FC in their 2-1 win over NorthEast United. The defender was adventurous with the ball and provided the assist for Sivasakthi Narayanan’s goal. He had 75 touches of the ball and also made four clearances while defending.
Right midfielder: Lallianzuala Chhangte (Mumbai City)
Mumbai City ran rampant against Kerala Blasters and Lallianzuala Chhangte was one of the best Indian performers on the night. The winger has been in excellent form for the Islanders and provided a beautiful assist for Greg Stewart’s goal. His movement caused a lot of trouble for the opposition defenders.
Defensive midfielder: Suresh Singh Wangjam (Bengaluru FC)
Bengaluru FC secured three points by defeating NorthEast United, courtesy a 2-1 scoreline. Suresh Singh Wangjam was one of the shining stars for the Blues and won the Man of the Match award for his display. He completed 48 of his 56 passes and got 66 touches on the ball.
Attacking midfielder: Greg Stewart (Mumbai City)
Greg Stewart was once again on the scoresheet for Mumbai City. He has scored five times for the Islanders in ISL 2022-23 and could add more in the forthcoming games. Against Kerala, the midfielder completed all of his 28 passes and finished the game with a 100% passing accuracy.
Left midfielder: Bipin Singh (Mumbai City)
Bipin Singh scored yet another goal in the ongoing 2022-23 season of the ISL. The winger now has six goals in the campaign and continues to extend his record as the club’s all-time top-scorer. He also registered an assist in the convincing win over the Yellow Army.
Striker: Diego Mauricio (Odisha FC)
Odisha FC were the winning team against East Bengal and a huge credit for that goes to Diego Mauricio. The striker scored a brace and was hungry to score the third goal too. He also got the assist for the other goal and walked away with the Man of the Match award.
Striker: Bartholomew Ogbeche (Hyderabad FC)
Bartholomew Ogbeche scored a sensational hat-trick for Hyderabad FC in their 3-1 win over FC Goa and in the process, effectively silenced his critics (since he was going through a goal drought a few weeks back). The striker was declared the Man of the Match for his contribution.
Striker: Jorge Pereyra Diaz (Mumbai City)
Jorge Pereyra Diaz was on fire in Mumbai City's 4-0 demolition of Kerala Blasters. The striker scored twice and also assisted Bipin Singh's goal. He deservedly won the Man of the Match award.
