Suresh Singh signs long-term contract extension at Bengaluru FC
The 22-year-old has been at the club since 2019.
Bengaluru FC midfielder Suresh Singh Wangjam is all set to pen an extension with the club, Khel Now can confirm. A source close to the development, informed Khel Now, "Suresh Singh Wangjam is set to sign a five-year extension contract at Bengaluru FC. His approximate salary will be around 7 crores for five years."
As it is, Suresh's contract would have been ending in May, 2024. Thus, a year earlier, the parent club decided to lock him for another five years till 2029. Recently, the club also signed Gurpreet Singh Sandhu on a deal which runs till 2028.
Bengaluru FC are in a process of rebuild and this is just another step to secure the club's future, Khel Now believes. The start of the calendar year saw Bengaluru FC bring back Albert Roca, albeit in a Technical Consultant role. They also signed Darren Caldeira as the Director of Football. Moreover, the Blues bagged the services of Hyderabad FC winger Halicharan Narzary, who will be donning the blue jersey coming summer.
Suresh Singh Wangjam's career
Currently an India international, Suresh Singh has plied his trade for the nation ever since 2017, when he was made part of the infamous squad which featured in the FIFA U-17 World Cup. He has played for the senior team, and that too, with pride. His recent-best performance came in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers in June, 2022.
In 2019, Suresh Singh left Indian Arrows to join ISL side Bengaluru FC and has been at the club since then. Currently, he is a vital cog in Simon Grayson's team and is expected to lead the side in future too!
Bengaluru FC's season
The 2022-23 season for Bengaluru FC was full of ups and downs. The club lifted their first Durand Cup in September. However, things changed in the ISL. Simon Grayson's side were going through a long patch of mediocre performances and there came a point in December, when no one expected Bengaluru FC to qualify for the playoffs.
The determined Bengaluru FC contingent however, turned the tables as the new year started and remained unbeaten in the ISL until the grand finale, where they lost in the tie-breaker to ATK Mohun Bagan.
Currently, they are playing in the Hero Super Cup 2023 and are eyeing silverware here too!
