Top five clubs with most league home wins in 2022-23 season
The list includes two teams from Ligue 1 and one each from the Premier League, LaLiga and Bundesliga with the best home form this year.
There are several teams who tend to play better football at home than travelling away. Whether it's the noisy home fans who give their teams the extra boost of energy to the team players who are able to help their team win by doing something special to help the star teammates on the pitch. Here's a list of teams who compiled their splendid league form by racking up consistent victories on home soil and making themselves formidable to beat at home, this calendar year.
Here are the top five clubs with the most league home wins in 2022-23:
5. Barcelona, LaLiga, (12 wins)
Legend Xavi's return to Camp Nou has finally returned success in their league campaign, with the Blaugrana well on course for the LaLiga title in 2022-23. Barcelona inarguably has the best defensive record at home in Europe, where they've only conceded a mere 2 goals all season. The resilience at the back has been inspired by the defensive backbone of Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde, who've helped their side become near impossible to penetrate at home.
The Camp Nou faithful have seen their side concede less than 0.35 goals per match at home, and achieving 12 wins and a 80% home win record in return. With four of the remaining seven fixtures at home, the Catalans will be hoping to cap off the campaign with the 27th LaLiga title and also remain unbeaten at home throughout the season.
4. Paris Saint-Germain F.C, Ligue 1 (12 wins)
Despite an underwhelming season in the Champions League, exiting at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Round of 16, PSG have kept a tight strong hold on their French League title aspirations. Their home record this year has been consistent throughout the year with 12 wins out of 16 matches, a 75% win record, and only second to Lens with 14 wins.
They've been scoring 2.38 goals per match, and are the highest-scoring French side at home with 37 goals. They've three of the six remaining Ligue 1 matches at home this year and will look to clinch their 8th top flight title in 11 years, by winning those games, & virtually ensuring the inevitable.
3. Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga (12 wins)
The current Bundesliga leaders are having possibly their best league campaign in years, partly thanks to their great form at home this year, and also the fact that reigning ten consecutive winners of the title Bayern, are having an inconsistent and transition season. But that hasn't stopped the Yellow and Black army from making their 81,365 capacity Signal Iduna Park, a fortress, and notching up 14 wins in the calendar year.
Teams have always been wary of travelling to the home of the Yellow Army, & Erin Terzic's men have been nothing short of remarkable at home scoring 42 goals and conceding a league-best 13 in return, besides losing only once. With only five wins away from winning the Bundesliga title back after 2011 and three of them at home, it looks extremely likely that fan favourite & captain Marco Reus might end up lifting the Meisterschale, after all.
2. Lens, Ligue 1 (14 wins)
Franck Haise's men have been brilliant at the Stade Bollaert, where they capped off a crucial victory 3-0 victory, last Sunday, over a 4th-placed Monaco side who're chasing a Champions League spot alongside them. With top-scoring Belgian striker Lois Openda delivering the goods yet again, Lens matched a feat no other side in Europe could boast (Record of 14 home league wins until Manchester City matched it after beating Arsenal).
Such a run by Lens is literally of historic proportion as their tally of 14 home wins, hasn't been achieved in the French top flight since 1955-56. They'll hope to finish as high as second and qualify directly for the Champions League next season, with 3 of the remaining six games at home.
1. Manchester City, Premier League (14 wins)
Manchester City now holds an 87% home win record, winning 14 out of 16 home matches, after they convincingly beat title contenders Arsenal 4-1 Wednesday, 26th April. The Citizens have been racking up the points at home rapidly this season where they've scored 54 goals and conceded only 16, and with a single draw and loss added to their entire season's tally.
Top scorer Erling Haaland has scored 21 of his record-breaking 33 league goals at home this season, he's scoring at a pace of 1.28 goals per game. This also helps City's record of 2.65 goals per game, where they've racked 54 of their 82 goals all season, and their free-scoring run looks near impossible to stop with three of their seven league fixtures at home remaining this season, and are now favourites to win back to back Premier League titles.
