Find out which country has the most representation in the European knockout tournaments.

The Conference League, Europa League, and Champions League will now go on to the semi-finals since teams from the top five European leagues will compete there, and several teams from the same league have advanced to the tournament's semifinals.

Real Madrid and Sevilla have consistently progressed far in their respective competitions. Here are the top six divisions from which teams have advanced.

Switzerland: 1 (Basel)

A late goal by Ghanaian defender Kasim Nuhu Adams gave FC Basel the victory and advanced the Swiss powerhouses to the UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final.

In additional time, the TSG Hoffenheim player who was playing on loan lept high to score as FC Basel shocked OGC Nice in France. Basel maintained their calm, and with four minutes left, Jean-Kevin Augustin's superb goal sent the match into extra time.

Netherlands: 1 (AZ Alkmaar)

AZ Alkmaar defeated Anderlecht 4-1 on penalties to go to the Europa Conference League semifinals, where they will play West Ham.

After extra time, the match concluded 2-2 on aggregate as AZ won 2-0 at home. AZ quickly erased the visitors' two-goal advantage from the first leg as Evangelos Pavlidis converted an early penalty and then quickly added a second that was awarded via a VAR review.

Germany: 1 (Leverkusen)

After thrashing host Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium 4-1 on Thursday for a 5-2 aggregate victory that extended their undefeated streak to 12 straight games across all tournaments, Bayer Leverkusen easily advanced into the Europa League semifinals.

Leverkusen, the only German team remaining in any European tournament this year, have earnt the initial European semifinal in 21 years as a result of the outcome, which also puts an end to Union's fantastic first-ever Europa League run.

Spain: 2 (Sevilla, Real Madrid)

Errors by David De Gea and Harry Maguire bookended a humiliating 3-0 loss against Sevilla, putting an end to Manchester United's hopes of competing in the Europa League in Spain. After surrendering a commanding two-goal lead in the first leg of this quarterfinal a week prior, the Red Devils wilted at the boisterous Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan compared to bouncing back.

Real Madrid defeated Chelsea 2-0 on Tuesday to complete a decisive 4-0 aggregate victory and advance to the Champions League semi-finals, essentially ending the reeling London club's season. Real Madrid and Manchester City are expected to meet in the semifinals. Pep Guardiola's squad led Bayern Munich 3-0 following the first leg of their last-eight match.

England: 2 (West Ham, Man City)

Declan Rice was dubbed 'Roy of the Rovers' by David Moyes after his stunning solo strike sent West Ham into the Europa Conference League semi-finals. Hammers captain Rice scored a goal that Roy Race, the Melchester Rovers comic book hero, would have been pleased with when they defeated Gent of Belgium 4-1 on the night and 5-2 overall.

Erling Haaland was there to get revenge on his old foe once more, this time in Germany, as the ex-Borussia Dortmund forward netted to give Manchester City a 4-1 victory overall.

The Norwegian was on hand to slam in Kevin de Bruyne's ball to give Man City the lead in the 57th minute after Haaland missed a penalty in the 37th minute by shooting wide. Man City will be playing in the semi-finals for the third straight year thanks to the aggregate victory. Real Madrid and Pep Guardiola's team will square off in a rematch of their last match at the same level.

Italy: 5 (Fiorentina, Juventus, Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan)

Even the most upbeat Serie A supporter could not have predicted that three Italian teams would go to the quarterfinals of Europe's top club championship at the start of this season.

However, as the round of eight approaches, five Italian teams are present: Inter, Roma, Fiorentina, Juventus, and Scudetto champions AC Milan from the previous year.

Three Italian clubs last advanced to the quarterfinals in 2006. Three years prior, three clubs advanced to the semifinals, but since Inter's victory in 2010, no Italian team has taken first place.
