Which Premier League players have hit the woodwork most times in 2022-23 season?
These footballers have been quite unlucky in front of goal
It is frustrating when for a player when they get a great ball from the outfield or even they are in a one on one situation, taking every decision accurately but when they hit it, it struck the woodwork. If the ball had not hit the woodwork, it would either equalise the score line or gave a lead to the team or would provide a cushion for the team to sit upon. It is just hard luck for the player and it very difficult to be in that position too. But these players had been in that position several times this season.
Here is the list of the top seven players who have hit the woodwork most times this season in the Premier League:
Erling Haaland: 4
A season that any player can dream of, this Manchester City player has been enjoying his football more than anyone else in this list. Scoring 32 goals in 28 games this season in the Premier League; Erling Haaland has been smashing records day in and day out. His 32 goals this season does compensate for his lost chances but the Norwegian has hit the woodwork four times this season. If those balls managed to get in, he would have already surpassed Alan Shearer’s record of most goals in a Premier League season.
Ivan Toney: 4
Crucial for the Brentford side, Ivan Toney has been in great form this season. With 18 goals this season in the league, he has been the main man for The Bees. His contribution has helped them a lot in making them a mid table team after being promoted to the Premier League last season. But sometimes, things don’t go as planned; he has been denied four times this season because of the woodwork.
Heung-Min Son: 4
The season has been difficult for this Tottenham Hotspurs player only scoring eight goals in 29 matches this season in comparison to 23 goals in 35 matches last season. Heung-Min Son has already been denied four times this season because of the woodwork and this has really affected his performance in recent times.
Joelinton: 4
The number of goals scored and the number of times Joelinton of Newcastle United has hit the woodwork this season has been the same which is four. The Brazilian has improved a lot in the winger position for his side and has been a regular starter for Eddie Howe. All of his goals this season came when he started on the left flank.
Brenden Aaronson: 4
This Leeds United midfielder has not been able to do his magic as he did in his previous club at RB Salzburg. Hitting the woodwork four times this season and only managed to get only one at the back of the net, the American has not been seen in a great form and this has been reflected in Leeds United form this season.
Ollie Watkins: 5
The Aston Villa striker has been in great form with 14 goals in his name this season in the Premier League. He has been denied five times this season because of the woodwork but this has not affected his form and has shown in the form of Aston Villa as they are sixth in the Premier League table.
Darwin Núñez: 5
With a £85 million price tag, Darwin Núñez has not reached the hype he was supposed to when he joined for Liverpool in the start of the season. He has scored just nine goals this season in the Premier League and he missing the goal or hitting the woodwork has been a talking point all throughout the season. He has managed to hit the woodwork five times this season and it was a frustrating for the team as those were some crucial misses for the Liverpool team.
