Emiliano Martinez to visit Mohun Bagan tent & few other places in Kolkata tour
Emiliano Martinez is coming to Kolkata on a two-day tour.
Argentina World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez is all set to visit Kolkata in his tour of India in July. It is expected to be a two-day tour from July 4-5. The Aston Villa no.1 remains a major favourite in the city after starring for the Albieceleste at the Qatar World Cup and playing a pivotal role over their win.
Martinez is currently playing for the Villans in the final stretch of their Premier League campaign. Villa are pushing to secure qualification for a European competition next year and the Argentine goalkeeper is focused on ensuring that happens.
Emiliano Martinez to visit Mohun Bagan Club in July
Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan have confirmed that Martinez has promised to visit their club on July 4, as part of his Kolkata tour. The Mariners have managed to secure an agreement with the World Cup-winning goalkeeper to pay them a visit when he arrives at the City of Joy.
In an official statement, Mohun Bagan General Secretary Debashis Dutta confirmed that Martinez will visit the club tent in Maidan, Kolkata on the evening of the 4th of July. Further details of the programme in which the Argentine will be celebrated is going to be revealed in due course.
Martinez will join group of legends who have visited the Mohun Bagan Ground during their tour of Kolkata in the past. The likes of Pele and Diego Maradona both visited the tent in the past and the Mariners have managed another major coup in the World Cup-winning goalkeeper. It is said that Emi will kick his autographed footballs into the gallery as well.
Where else will Martinez visit?
In his promotional visit to India, Martinez will spend two days in Kolkata in July. He will also meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as well as former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly during his visit.
He’ll also be a chief guest for a charity match that will take place at the Mohun Bagan Ground during his visit. Moreover, Martinez will also visit some other heritage sights in Kolkata. He’ll travel to Santosh Mitra Square, which has earned its fame for hosting one of the city’s biggest Durja Puja festivities.
Also, he’ll visit Sreebhumi Sporting Club, where a Diego Maradona statue is located at. He could even visit some other famous places in the city, but that is yet to be confirmed.
Martinez was the Golden Glove winner in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, having kept three clean sheets. He also starred in the penalty shootout win against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals, before playing a massive role in the penalty shootout win over France in the final to help Argentina earn their third World Cup.
