Leicester City's fairytale run of nine seasons in the top division might come to an end.

The Foxes lifting the 2015-16 Premier League trophy will now seem like a daydream. Just after seven years, they are on the verge of collapse. Sitting 18th in the Premier League, they could very well be hosting the last PL game for at least a year. A Victory for David Moyes's West Ham will surely send Leicester to the EFL Championship.

West Ham United, on the other hand, have nothing much to gain from the fixture. In ten days, they will play the Europa Conference League final against Serie A side AFC Fiorentina. So sole objective at the Hammers camp for Matchday 38 will be to come back out of the game without any knock or major injury.

Even if the home team cooks a victory soup for themselves, they will hope Everton can't relish a win. This is the only permutation that will allow the Foxes to breathe Premier League football for another year. In this case, the Toffees will go down for the first time since the Premier League's inception in 1992.

Kick-Off:

Sunday, 28 May 2023 at 4:30 PM BST (9 PM IST)

Location: King Power Stadium

Form

Leicester City (in all competitions): D-L-L-D-D

West Ham (in all competitions): W-W-L-W-W

Players to Watch

James Maddison (Leicester City)

James Maddison has received a call-up from Gareth Southgate for England duties. But he has a major final to play for. At least it will feel like a final for the home side. The English lad has generated great output, even if his side was seen struggling. He has 10 goals and nine assists to his name. The playmaker has featured in 29 Premier League games for Leicester City this season.

Declan Rice (West Ham)

West Ham's club captain could be playing his last few games for the Hammers. With the transfer window set to open on June 14, West Ham knows Rice has many suitors to choose from. The defensive midfielder has four goals in 36 English top-flight appearances. And even two assists.

Match Facts

  • If Leicester City are unable to win the game, they will get relegated from the Premier League.
  • Even if Leicester wins it, the only way to stay up is to hope Everton is unable to win at Goodison Park.
  • In the previous six seasons, West Ham have lost just once on matchday 38. That defeat came last year against Brighton.

Injury & Team News for Leicester City vs West Ham United

Former Manchester United centre-back, Jonny Evans will be a key miss in the fixture. He received a knock against Newcastle United. Wilfried Ndidi is doubtful with a hamstring issue. Leicester will continue to be without James Justin, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Ryan Bertrand.

David Moyes has nothing to gain from this fixture. West Ham have a Europa Conference League final to play for in a matter of ten days. He wouldn't want any key players to get injured against the Foxes, so plenty of rotations in between games are expected. A notable absentee will be Gianluca Scamacca.

Match Prediction for Leicester City vs West Ham

Every Leicester City fan watching from all over the globe will be eagerly waiting for the final whistle. Without a win, the Foxes have no future in the top flight. They will also be backing Bournemouth to beat Everton, as the results from Goodison Park will have a drastic effect on their immediate future. West Ham themselves won't be coming to take a stroll in the park. A positive display of football can have a domino effect on David Moyes's players, who will play in the European finals in ten days.

Prediction: Leicester City 2-1 West Ham
