Can the Gunners remain in pursuit of their title chase or the Magpies further cement their place in the Top 4?

Newcastle United have certainly lived upto their expectations and proven themselves under Eddie Howe. A top four finish and an UEFA Champions League spot next season seems almost but certain with The Magpies having 65 points on board after 33 games and ahead of 5th placed Liverpool by 6 points having played a game less. With the title chasers Arsenal on the horizon, they can be confident since Newcastle are one of the three teams Arsenal have failed to defeat in Premier League this season, along with Southampton and Manchester City. Newcastle won this exact fixture 2-0 last season and this could be a daunting task for Arteta's men at St. James' Park.

Arsenal bounced back immediately after their disappointing trip to Manchester City and humbled Chelsea by 3-1 at their own backyard last weekend. Potentially 4 points Manchester City in the title race, Arteta's men will have to keep up and avoid any slip on the road to have any chance at the domestic title. Although Arsenal have failed to score in their last two Premier League games against The Magpies, they have kept 29 clean sheets against Newcastle in the league, no side has kept more against a specific opponent in the competition's history.

Kick-Off:

Sunday, 07-05-2023, 03:30 PM (GMT)

Sunday, 07-05-2023, 09:00 PM (IST)

Newcastle United Form (All Competitions): W-W-W-L-W

Arsenal Form (All Competitions): W-L-D-D-D

Player to Watch Out

Newcastle United: Alexander Isak

Isak is a right footed centre-forward who can lead the front line on his own or work in a centre-forward pairing with Callum Wilson. He shows versatility in his movements; when space allows, he can spin in behind, running forward to attack beyond his centre-back markers. Despite having an injury hit season, he has scored 10 times in the league this season.

Arsenal: Leandro Trossard

After an impressive display against Chelsea, it is very likely that Arteta will be giving him the nod ahead of Gabriel Martinelli again. His capacity to attempt multiple kinds of passes makes him a more varied creative threat, making him difficult for the opposition to defend and malleable to the players around him. The other standout trait Trossard possesses that will allow him to fit well into Arsenal's setup against Newcastle is his defensive work.

Match Facts

The reverse fixture between Arsenal and Newcastle in January this season ended 0-0- the Magpies haven't avoided defeat in both Premier League meetings with Arsenal in a season since 2010-11 (1-0 away, 4-4 at home).

Although Arsenal have failed to score in their last two Premier League games against The Magpies, they have scored at least once in each of their previous 18 meetings against them (scoring 40 in total).

Injury and Team News

Allan Saint-Maximin remains sidelined with a thigh injury with Sean Longstaff having an ankle injury. Jacob Murphy has been lively in the midfield and the absence of Longstaff has hardly been felt. Jamaal Lascelles is out for the season with a calf injury as Botman and Schar continue to be the centre-back pairing for Howe's men. Emil Krafth is also a notable miss out with a knee injury. Anthony Gordon, Isak and Callum Wilson have shuffled their places in the front line which has been a brilliant tactic by Eddie Howe throughout the season. Joelinton has been among the goals lately which has been a massive plus in the recent weeks.

Gabriel Magalhaes came off with five minutes remaining against Chelsea, with Rob Holding replacing him. The Brazilian looked to be holding his hamstring when TV cameras panned to him. It is a doubt whether he will be making the trip to Tyneside which means that Holding and Kiwior will start. William Saliba has also been out with a back injury which is a major concern for Arteta at this point in the season. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohammed Elneny are also ruled out for the rest of the season.

Prediction for Newcastle United vs Arsenal

Arsenal have had the calibre in recent years and an experienced set of players might prove to be more than enough for them to see them through this tie. Although Newcastle will give it their all, we are predicting it to be a deadlock until the game opens up in the latter stages and both of them settle for a draw.

Prediction: Newcastle United 1-1 Arsenal.
