The last line of defence, goalkeepers, are the shield that protects their team's fortress. We are in the summer transfer window, and clubs across the globe will search for the perfect custodian to anchor, lead their defence, and lead the team from the back. There are a few best goalkeepers that will be available in the summer transfer window.

With the transfer market buzzing with anticipation, we look into the world of these elite keepers, unveiling some of them as the most coveted assets currently available. From acrobatic saves to commanding presence, these shot-stopping titans are poised to make an indelible impact wherever their gloves may land.

Here are the top five goalkeepers available on the market currently:

5. Lorius Karius

The former Liverpool goalkeeper was part of Newcastle United and Eddie Howe's squad for the 2022–23 season. The 30-year-old German goalkeeper was so traumatised after his Liverpool performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

He didn't even play one match for Newcastle United in the 38 Premier League games this season; the only appearance he made for the club this season was in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United. Nick Pope was suspended in that match, and Martin Dubravka was ineligible.

Karius, whose last senior appearance was almost two years ago, for Union Berlin against TSG Hoffenheim on Feb. 28, 2021, has endured some difficult times during the past four-and-a-half years. This season, he will look to have a redemption season and prove haters wrong.

4. Bingourou Kamara

Bingourou Kamara is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Ligue 1 club Montpellier. He was born in France but plays for the Senegal national team. The 26-year-old goalkeeper played five games in Ligue 1 this season, playing a total of 407 minutes. He started four games and came on as a substitute in one. Due to a lack of playing time, the Senegalese will look for more options for the upcoming 2023–24 campaign.

3. David de Gea

David de Gea has undoubtedly been one of Manchester United's best players in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era. He won the golden glove award for keeping the most clean sheets in the Premier League during the 2022–23 season. David de Gea's frailties as a goalkeeper in the modern game have been extensively discussed recently. This has led to the Spanish goalkeeper's future being shrouded in uncertainty this summer.

However, his limitations have let United down in recent seasons, and the Red Devils are reportedly on the lookout for a more well-rounded modern goalkeeper this summer. Various goalkeepers have been on the list for Erik Ten Hag this upcoming season. His current deal will expire on June 30, and talks have been ongoing over a new deal, but there are concerns over playing time and wages that stand between De Gea and Manchester United.

2. Yann Sommer

The 34-year-old goalkeeper was signed from Borussia Mönchengladbach after Manuel Neuer suffered a season-ending injury. The FC Bayern München keeper will almost certainly be on the move this offseason, having already completed his task of keeping Manuel Neuer's slot warm for the second half of the season.

It nevertheless remains true that much larger clubs are interested in Sommer's services. One club that has shown interest in the veteran goalkeeper is another German club. VfB Stuttgart is the club that wants to sign the veteran goalkeeper, and Sommer will look to explore new options as he looks to play more games.

1. Dominik Livakovic

Dominik Livakovic has 45 international caps for Croatia

Dominik Livakovic was snapped up by Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 and initially loaned back to their city neighbours, but came back in 2016 to take over as first-choice goalkeeper. In January of the next year, he made his senior debut with Croatia, but it was not until 2019 that he became a regular for the national team.

Dominik Livakovic put in a stunning performance to frustrate Brazil and help Croatia to a penalty shootout win. He was the saviour for Croatia as they beat Japan on penalties, making three saves in the shootout, becoming the third to ever do so at the World Cup. He helped them enter the 2022 World Cup semi-finals; he has now made 262 appearances for Dinamo and 39 for Croatia.
