Prabhsukhan Gill & Gursimrat Gill sign for East Bengal
The players have already arrived in Kolkata.
The Gill brothers - Prabhsukhan Gill and Gursimrat Gill have a new destination - East Bengal. Perhaps in recent times, East Bengal will again witness two brothers playing for the same team. The last time it happened was way back in 2008, when Surkumar Singh and Khelemba Singh played for the Red & Gold Brigade.
A source informed Khel Now, "East Bengal have completed the signing of brothers Prabhsukhan Gill and Gursimrat Gill. The Red & Golds have paid a transfer fee of Rs. 1.2 Crores to the Kerala Blasters for Prabhsukhan's acquisition. On the other hand, Gursimrat was a free agent since his contract at Mumbai City was over."
Prabhsukhan Gill, unlike his brother, had an existing contract with the Kerala Blasters and was also a fan favourite. But why did he decide to leave? The source revealed, "Prabhsukhan was offered an extension by the Kerala Blasters management, but he refused to sign the same. As a result, the club was forced to sell him."
If Prabhsukhan Gill wasn't sold in this transfer window, next year he would have left the club as a free agent, which undoubtedly would have been a severe blow to the management. In football, the best player(s) of a club is never allowed to move for free, and a modern-day example in world football is Kylian Mbappe.
When are the Gill brothers coming to Kolkata? The source told Khel Now, "They have already completed the medicals and signed the official contract. Moreover, they have already reached Kolkata and checked into Novotel, where the entire team is staying."
East Bengal's preparations
After appointing Carles Cuadrat as their head coach and signing players like Borja Herrera, Saul Crespo, and Javier Siverio, the management is currently waiting for their arrival in Kolkata. A visa problem is there, but it is not only for foreigners in East Bengal but for the entire country. Once the matter is resolved by the Government of India, the players will start arriving.
This delay in the arrival of foreigners will certainly affect East Bengal, as they had eyed the Durand Cup 2023 for the resurrection.
However, the Indian players have started arriving in Kolkata. They will be training under assistant coach Bino George. Also, George will be looking after the reserve team along with Indian football legend Bimal Ghosh.
