Kerala Blasters' forward Jaushua Sotirio undergoes surgery
Jaushua Sotirio is expected to stay out of action for a long term.
The 2023-24 season of Indian Football is just around the corner and the teams have started their preparations in full swing. The season will kick off with the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup followed by the 10th edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).
Three times runners-up Kerala Blasters are currently undergoing a massive revamp with unexpected departures and arrivals being made. The Blasters signed Australian target man Jaushua Sotirio from A-League side Newcastle Jets for an undisclosed transfer fee on a multi-year deal.
The forward was brought in to solve the side’s goal-scoring problems and was expected to be their main man up front given the kind of skill set he possesses. He joined Kerala Blasters' pre-season camp on time and was gearing up for the upcoming Durand Cup.
But unfortunately, he sustained a long-term injury during a training session which could see him miss a large part of the ISL season. Jaushua suffered a serious ankle injury during training and needs proper rehabilitation.
But, good news is that the forward has successfully undergone a surgery and is now on the recovery trail, the club announced on Tuesday through their social media handles. He will now undergo recovery before a swift comeback to the pitch.
For how long will the forward be out of action?
As mentioned above, the player has sustained a serious long-term injury and is expected to remain out of action at least until 2024. His injury means that Kerala Blasters need to have a short-term replacement in place ahead of the ISL season.
About the player
Born and brought up in Australia, the forward from down under is considered to be one of the best players that A-League has ever witnessed. He is very versatile and can make an impact from anywhere in the front three.
His type of play goes hand in hand with the brand of football Ivan Vukomanovic expects his men to play. He is smart, quick and can cause a lot of damage if things fall in place for him. Jaushua’s injury comes in as a massive blow to Kerala Blasters as things have already fallen out of the window and the season hasn’t even started yet.
