Top three players who can replace Marco Reus as Borussia Dortmund's club captain

The 34-year-old has stepped down as BVB's captain
Marco Reus, an attacker for Borussia Dortmund, has announced his decision to relinquish his position as club captain.
In place of former defender Marcel Schmelzer, the 34-year-old German international was elected Dortmund leader at the beginning of the 2018–19 campaign.
Reus has confirmed that he has told manager Edin Terzic and athletic director Sebastian Kehl of his desire to step down as club skipper after five years of leading the team.
"I had plenty of time to reflect over my time away, so I've chosen to turn over the captain's hat. I informed Terzic and Kehl about my decision yesterday.”
“I was allowed to wear this armband for five years with pride and honour. Thank you for your support over the years. I wish that Sebastian and Edin find a very good successor. I am sure they will succeed.”
3. Julian Brandt
Brandt has been at Dortmund since 2019, the German international has been a regular starter for the club and won DFB-Pokal with them next season. Considering Reus has stepped down as captain Brandt could be the next captain for the forthcoming season.
The 27-year-old has shown his leadership from midfield and has been captain of the club numerous times, and could lead the team if given the chance next campaign.
2. Emre Can
Since January 2020, the defensive player, who is 27 years old, has played for Borussia Dortmund. He was a member of the group that won the DFB-Pokal in 2021. German Cup and league champion. Italian league champion. Champions League title as well, even though he did not actively participate in the competition in 2013 when he was just 19 years old.
But he participated in the 2016 Europa League and 2018 Champions League finals with Liverpool, three and five years later, correspondingly. Emre Can has experience making it to major finals and winning them. He won the DFB-Pokal in just his second season with BVB.
1. Mats Hummels

Even if Mats Hummels stays until the summer transfer window, it could be questionable if he would still be the ideal choice to lead the team after publicly courting the club's fierce Bavarian rivals.
If the defender does not serve as Dortmund's captain next season, there are several potential replacements. He has a lot of stuff he projects onto the guy that is wearing the armband. It involves bonding with the captain and the captain's bonding with the team. But the experienced centre-half would certainly lead the team from his performances and could be the ideal replacement for Reus.
