Former Cameroon international striker and legend Samuel Eto'o has been accused of allegedly being involved in a match-fixing scandal.

According to L'Equipe, the Cameroon Football Federation President (FECAFOOT) is involved in match-fixing after promising to promote a club to the first division in Cameroon.

The source said, In audio recordings from January 2023, Eto'o allegedly says: “Opopo must go up to the first division. This is our goal (...) This is our Federation. Victoria United will go up."

Several months later, Vitoria United, who were at the bottom of the table, got promoted after Stade de Bertoua, who were second in the league, was declared a general withdrawal by FECAFOOT.

Samuel Eto'o retired from international football in 2014. He played 118 games for 'The Indomitable Lions' and scored 56 goals.

The 42-year-old striker retired from club football in 2019. Eto'o played for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Everton, and eight other clubs in Europe and other parts of the world. With four league titles and three UEFA Champions Leagues, Samuel Eto'o was one of the most decorated strikers in Cameroon's football history.

After retirement, he became the President of the Cameroon Football Federation on December 11, 2021. Eto'o was also appointed Ambassador of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The striker played in four World Cups for Cameroon and appeared in eight matches. He scored three goals.

Samuel Eto'o won a Gold medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics and also won two Africa Cup of Nations.

Recently, former vice President of the Cameroonian Football Federation Henri Njalla Quan accused Eto'o of trying to ruin the career of goalkeeper Andre Onana, who is on the verge of joining Manchester United.

Onana left the camp of the Cameroonian team at the FIFA World Cup 2022 due to personal differences with the management.
