The 25-year-old has made 29 international caps for Slovakia

Newcastle United are interested in signing Feyenoord's defender David Hancko. The 25-year-old, who played in 28 league matches this season, was a key contributor to the Dutch team's Eredivisie title triumph last year.

Since his debut in 2018, he has earned 29 caps for Slovakia, where he has established himself as a regular.

Hancko's career began with Zilina in his native country; he didn't join Feyenoord until last summer, following stints with Sparta Prague and Fiorentina. As Santi Aouna reports, Newcastle has shortlisted the defender, and he may potentially be moving again.

Eddie Howe is eager to add security as his team gets ready for the increased pressure of Champions League play, and Hancko is understood to be viewed as a reliable squad alternative at the back.

Hancko's meteoric rise to a versatile defender

Hancko began his career at Zilina B, where he matured into a top defender. His progress was quick, which saw him get promoted to Zilina's senior team, and his performance saw him earn a big move to Fiorentina, where he started his career.

However, at the Italian club, he did not get enough games, and that defender was loaned out to Sparta Prague, where his showing convinced the club to sign the defender permanently. Prague was a club where he became a regular player, and his three seasons there saw him make over 30 appearances.

Impressed by his brilliance, Feyenoord signed the defender for 6 million Euros, signing a four-year contract. He has grown into an experienced defender, and now the 25-year-old is being monitored by one of the Premier League's top clubs, Newcastle United.

Why Newcastle United should sign Hancko?

In the Champions League, Newcastle will face top-tier strikers on a regular schedule. They must therefore be organised in the back. Last season, the Tyneside team had one of the top Premier League defences. However, they must improve their side and create a team for the foreseeable future.

Eddie Howe ought to make it a top priority to add another central defender, and David Hancko would be a good choice. The 25-year-old and the Dutchman could continue to form the backbone of Newcastle's defence for many years.

Hancko might play a crucial role for Newcastle in the upcoming seasons because he unquestionably possesses the physicality and technical abilities needed to thrive in English football.

He will want to participate in the Premier League next season since the chance to join a club that plays in the Champions League will be alluring. And the Magpies have already requested information about the Slovak.
