Kerala Blasters FC are finally in action in the 132nd IndianOil Durand Cup and will take on their local rivals, Gokulam Kerala FC, in a Group C match that will take place at Mohun Bagan Ground.
This is the first kickoff in the doubleheader today. Downtown Heroes FC will also make their first appearance in the tournament against Shillong Lajong FC.
Kerala Blasters FC fans are eagerly waiting to watch their team in action for the first time this season. The three-time runners-up in the Indian Super League will look for a major title in the current season. They finished fifth in the ISL 2022–23 and will look to go for the title this time.
New acquisitions like Ishan Pandita, Lara Sharma, Pritam Kotal, Naocha Singh, Sagolsem Bikash Singh, Prabir Das and Jaushua Sotirio will look to make their mark this season. Most of them will make their competitive debuts in the Durand Cup. Jaushua Sotirio will be a big miss as he is out of action until 2024.
Gokulam Kerala FC, on the other hand, finished third in the I-League 2022-23. Currently, they lead Group C after a 1-0 win over Indian Air Force in the opening group fixture. Bengaluru FC are the fourth team in this group. Both ISL teams in the group are yet to play a match.
Kerala Blasters only won three of their last 10 matches towards the end of the 2022-23 season. They lost six and shared points in one match. Ivan Vukomanovic will be hoping for a positive start this time.
This local derby promises to bring a lot of excitement. Yesterday, East Bengal FC earned a 1-0 win against their rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
