Ivan Gonzalez bids adieu to East Bengal
The Spaniard was one of East Bengal’s captains last season.
East Bengal FC’s centre-back from last season, Ivan Gonzalez has bid farewell to the Red & Gold Brigade after a lone season with the club – the player announced on Wednesday on his Twitter (X) handle.
Ivan, who joined East Bengal on a free transfer from FC Goa, led the club from the back in the 2022-23 season, and was one of their top performers.
Having made a total of 15 appearances in the league, Ivan’s performance at the back was incredible, and the 33-year-old centre-back was one of the few captains for East Bengal.
Now with his contract with East Bengal having come to an end, Ivan bids farewell to Indian football, after spending three seasons in the ISL.
What did Ivan Gonzalez say?
Ivan also shared a short video on his Twitter (X) handle, where he expressed his gratitude towards the faithful East Bengal fans, for their incredible support throughout the season.
“I’m making this video for all the East Bengal fans. I only want to say thank you for the last year. Even in the bad moments, with the bad results, you were there for us, trying to support us,” he said.
“My contract with East Bengal is finished, and I have nothing to say but that I am proud to have been one of the captains of your club and to have represented this amazing club in India,” Ivan added.
“Thank you for all your support, for everything you did last season. I know the result was not good but you were there for us. Joy East Bengal, and thank you very much for everything you did for me and for the club,” he concluded.
