The transfer window is scheduled to close on 1st September.

A report by Deloitte has indicated that Premier League clubs have spent a cumulative £1.95bn in the current ongoing transfer window, and with a week left to go for the transfer window to close, it is expected to go up as teams look to consolidate their sides with last minute signings.

The amount has already exceeded last years cumulative expenditure which stood at £1.92bn. This season has seen clubs not shying away from spending the big bucks to bring in their desired players. The window has seen two players cross the €100m mark. The first one being Declan Rice who left West Ham United to sign for last years runner ups Arsenal. And the other one being Moises Caicedo, who was at the centre of what was probably the most dramatic transfer saga in Premier League history. He was linked with various clubs and was almost decided as a Liverpool player. However, it was revealed that he would be a Chelsea player at the last minute.

Other teams have also been splashing money in the market.

Manchester United spent €55m on goal keeper Andre Onana, €46M on Midfielder Mason Mount, and made headlines when they brought in striker Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta for a whopping 72m  pounds.

Their rivals in Liverpool brought in world cup winner Alexis Mac Allister for 35m pounds, and then made headlines again when they brought in Dominik Szoboszlai for €70m from RB Leipzig.

Since switching ownerships in 2020, Chelsea have not shied away from spending money. They have so far spent in excess of a billion dollars under Todd Boehly. With Christopher Nkunku costing them 52 million pounds this season.

Last season’s dark horses Newcastle United have spend €70m on Sandro Tonali.
