Arsenal beat Manchester City on penalties to win FA Community Shield 2023

The Gunners win their 17th Community Shield
After defeating Manchester City 4-1 on penalties, Arsenal won their 17th FA Community Shield after the match ended 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes. The Gunners appeared to be losing until the 100th minute when Leonardo Trossard’s strike deflected off Manuel Akanji and went past Ortega to equalise the score.
Cole Palmer gave City the lead in the 77th minute with a brilliant strike that he curled past Aaron Ramsdale and over the back of the net after cutting inside from the right.
Leandro Trossard’s attempt was deflected beyond Ortega by Manuel Akanji to give Arsenal the equaliser in added time and force a penalty shootout.
Before Fabio Vieira scored the decisive penalty and Arsenal won the shootout 4-1 to win the first trophy of the year, Kevin De Bruyne’s penalty shot hit the post, and Ramsdale stopped Rodri’s attempt.
As usual, City had greater command over the ball and facilitated more opportunities, giving Arsenal less time with it and failing to pose any threat when attacking.
Phil Foden had a clear opportunity to beat Ramsdale and give City a 2-0 lead, but the custodian quickly reacted and stopped the threat.
