Rashford could be a differential captain pick in the FPL GW3

The Premier League is up and running, and the fans have been treated to two exhilarating game weeks already! Goals, red cards, drama, and controversies. Now, we are heading into Gameweek three in two days’ time. For the FPL managers, it is time to just sit and think through the strategies as to how their team can fair well over the gameweek. Choices will either lead to frustration or joy; that is how it has been and that is how it will be. So, in that light, here is a well-thought-out list of the top 5 captain picks for the FPL gameweek 3.

5. Marcus Rashford (Form-2.5)

Although Marcus Rashford boasts weak form going into the third Gameweek of the new season, he could prove to be a big differential pick as a captain if he has a blinder. However, Manchester United have not started the season as strongly as their fans hoped.

They won against the Wolves, but it was a bit lucky and controversial. Then, they played very poorly in defence against Tottenham and lost 2-0. But now they’re playing against Nottingham Forest, and on paper, it looks like an easy game for Manchester United. Even if they don’t win by a lot, they should score a few goals. Rashford’s positioning will be crucial in helping Manchester United score more goals.

4. Ollie Watkins (Form- 5)

The Aston Villa forward is playing really well. Even though he hasn’t scored, he’s helped his team with two assists in two games. Their next match is against Burnley, a team that many think will struggle this season. In their first game against City, their defence’s weaknesses were just out in the open.

Meanwhile, Villa did great in their last game against Everton, winning 4-0. Hence, we can expect more goals from them against Burnley. So, if you’re picking a captain for your FPL team for GW3, choosing a Villa player could be a smart move. Especially Ollie Watkins, who plays up front and might take penalty kicks if they get one.

3. Mohamed Salah (Form-5)

Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian King, or even the FPL King, has been the ever-reliable pick for any FPL manager since he joined Liverpool. Accumulating 303 points in his first season with the Reds and scoring more than 200 points every season thereafter. It’s a joke how effortlessly he does it. Let’s take a look at the last couple of games this season as an example. Although he hasn’t been at his best, he managed to provide an assist and score a goal.

Liverpool’s next opponent is Newcastle, who seems to be in good form despite losing to Manchester City by just one goal in their last game. This loss might motivate Liverpool, who are coming off a 3-1 win against Bournemouth. Salah tends to get impatient if he doesn’t score in several consecutive games, so as FPL managers, we need to be patient before expecting results. Could this be the game where Salah shines? It’s quite possible.

2. Martin Odegaard (Form-6.5)

Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard is the first Norwegian on the list. He has been dominating in that midfield role. Now, with Rice coming in, it is clearly visible that Odegaard is looking and playing more freely further up the pitch. Not worrying about the defensive part of the game that much.

Furthermore, in the last game, fans and fantasy players noticed that Odegaard would be taking spot kicks for Arsenal. This makes him a top choice for captain in the upcoming third gameweek. Arsenal’s next game is against Fulham, and they’re expected to win. You can even expect Odegaard to provide an assist or two in that match.

1. Erling Haaland (Form-7.5)

Erling Haaland has scored two goals in two games

Manchester City’s goalscoring machine is the safest of the captain’s picks in the FPL right now. If you don’t want to try something different, just go for the Norwegian Viking. Even though he was not on the score sheet in the last game against Newcastle, Haaland still has a solid record of 7.5 points from two games.

It is outrageous how easy it is for him to score goals at a competitive stage like the Premier League. Next up, City faces Sheffield United, a team struggling to avoid relegation. So, for Pep’s players, it is just about how many they will be scoring. And if there are multiple goals on the scoresheet, you can expect one or two from Haaland.
