Brighton beat Sevilla and Tottenham to sign Ansu Fati on loan

The Spanish youngster looks set to join the Premier League
Brighton’s revelation of a blockbuster signing was almost derailed by Ansu Fati’s receipt of an alternative proposal from Sevilla. Sevilla offered LaLiga football and, of course, a comfortable atmosphere.
On Wednesday night, Brighton were getting close to signing Fati on a temporary basis. Given Sevilla’s desire, a deal was less simple to make.
According to reports, Roberto De Zerbi’s mentoring and Brighton’s style of play persuaded Fati to change his mind.

In March, Fati’s father Bori criticised his son for receiving insufficient playing time for Barcelona and urged him to leave.
Bori acknowledged that he “often thinks of Sevilla,” the family’s new home after leaving Guinea-Bissau.
Fati made his debut for Barcelona in 2019 at the age of 16, and when he did so against Valencia, he set a record for being the youngest player in LaLiga annals to record a goal and assist in a single game.
Fati sustained a significant knee injury in November 2020 that forced him to miss nine months of work.
In each of the three of his team’s LaLiga matches thus far this campaign, Fati has played as a substitute after struggling to break into the Barcelona initial squad under Xavi.
Joao Felix, another of Mendes’ primary customers, should benefit from Fati’s departure because he will likely be able to finalise his own transfer to Barcelona from Atletico Madrid.
Joao Cancelo, a Mendes player who is also due to arrive, is also an addition that the team needs desperately at right-back given that Sergino Dest has already been sent out on loan.
