Chelsea find breakthrough with Brighton over Moises Caicedo's signing
The Blues might have to spend heavily in their pursuit of the young Ecuadorian midfielder
Chelsea have found a breakthrough in talks with Brighton over the signing of Moises Caicedo. While the Blues have made a £48 million proposal for Southampton midfielder Roméo Lavia in an effort to sabotage Liverpool’s pursuit of the player.
Caicedo is Mauricio Pochettino’s primary priority in the midfield this summer, and it’s believed that negotiations between the two teams have advanced this week. Although it is unknown if Chelsea are willing to spend that much for the Ecuadorian international, Brighton has been sticking to a bid of at least £100 million.
Chelsea have been attempting to negotiate a cheaper price; their most recent offer was for £80 million. Chelsea hopes to get Caicedo secured before they have to play Liverpool on Sunday.
There hasn’t been a compromise yet, and Caicedo is believed to be irritated by the lack of progress. The club attributed the 21-year-old’s absence from Sunday’s friendly match between Brighton and Rayo Vallecano to a calf issue, and he skipped training on Monday as well.
His absence from training, according to insiders associated with Caicedo, who wishes to join Stamford Bridge, was not due to an injury. Mohammed Kudus, an offensive midfielder from Ajax, has been acquired by Brighton as part of a strengthening effort.

Chelsea have been diligently trying to bolster their midfield with more experience and depth. They have also intensified their pursuit in Lavia and are negotiating a £20 million transfer for Tyler Adams of Leeds United.
Brighton’s attitude towards Caicedo, who recently renewed his contract, has been influenced by West Ham’s decision to sell Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105 million.
They might also mention Chelsea, who in January paid £106.8 million for Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández, surpassing the British transfer record.
The only two senior midfielders Pochettino presently has are Fernández and Conor Gallagher, with guys with limited Premier League experience making up his other choices. Cesare Casadei, an Italian midfielder, will soon be on loan from Chelsea to Leicester.
