Juventus remains the most dominant side in Serie A

The most important sport in Italy, as in most European countries, is football. Italy have won the second most FIFA World Cup titles; the Italians are second in the list (4 titles) behind Brazil (5 times).

The club sides of Italy have won 27 major European trophies, which makes this country the most successful European nation in football. Italian football is regarded as one of the best in the world; they have unearthed ample legends, and the Italian league is also in the top five leagues in the world.

After Napoli won the Scudetto after 33 years, let’s look at the clubs with the most titles in history:

10. Lazio- 2 titles

The underdogs of the Italian league, Lazio, have won two Serie A titles to this date, and they have been runners-up in Serie A. They are behind Napoli, with the number of their runners-up finishes being 6. However, concerning the number of Italian Cups, they are ahead of Napoli with 7 Italian Cups to this date, and with 5 Italian Super Cups, they are way ahead of Napoli, who have only won one such trophy.

9. AS Roma- 3 titles

AS Roma have only won three Serie A titles to this date, but they have finished runners-up as many as 14 times in the league. Roma have competed for 88 years in the Italian top division. Roma are one of the most successful clubs in the history of the Italian League. AS Roma have also achieved nine Coppa Italia titles and two Supercoppa Italiana titles in their club history.

8. Napoli- 3 titles

Diego Maradona’s wish came true after Napoli won the Scudetto after 33 years after winning the 2022–23 season. Their season was one of the best they have had; it was a dominant performance by Napoli. They have also won two Italian Super Cups, one UEFA Champions League, and one International Football Cup in their history and have competed primarily in Serie A since their foundation in 1926.

7. Vercelli- 7 titles

Vercelli’s golden era was actually before 1922 when football was not that professional. The club won all its Serie A titles before 1922, with five of them being consecutive. The titles that they won were from 1908 to 1913. But their success didn’t last long enough, as they have not been able to make it to Serie A. Vercelli have never won an Italian cup in their history, but they have actually won one Serie B and four Serie D titles in addition to the seven Serie A titles they have already won.

6. Bologna- 7 titles

Another top Serie A club that has also played in Serie B and Serie C, just like Vercelli, Bologna is our next team on the Serie A winners list, with seven Serie A titles won so far. Aside from two consecutive Serie A titles won in the 1935–36 and 1936–37 seasons, Bologna have no other title win to their name, and they have been relegated to Serie B and Serie C.

5. Torino- 7 titles

Occupying the fifth position on the list of top teams that won the most Serie A championships jointly with Bologna and Vercelli, Torino have won seven league titles to this date. From among all these seven titles, four were consecutive: the Serie A titles Torino won from 1945 to 1949. They also finished runners-up eight times in Serie A competitions.

4. Genoa- 9 titles

The next club that is on this list is Genoa, the last club with less than 10 Serie A titles to their name. In fact, Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan are the only clubs with more than 15 titles. If they had won the 1901 Serie A title, which was snatched away by AC Milan, they would have added a record of seven consecutive league title wins to their collection.

3. Inter Milan- 19 titles

The third Italian club with the most league titles won in the history of the competition is Inter Milan, who have actually won 19 Serie A titles to this date. Inter Milan won the Serie A title for the first time in 11 years in the 2020–21 season to end Juventus’s nine-year reign in Italy. The club has been the winner of the UEFA Champions League three times, and they have also won three UEFA Europa Leagues. Inter Milan have also achieved eight Coppa Italia titles and seven Supercoppa Italiana titles.

2. AC Milan- 19 titles
