The left-back claims the Argentine’s heroic performances for Inter Miami have come due to leaving the Ligue 1 champions

Jordi Alba acknowledges that Lionel Messi “didn’t have a good time” at Paris Saint-Germain, but the Argentine has since regained the grin he lost at Inter Miami.

After terminating career-long links with La Liga powerhouse Barcelona in the summer of 2021, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner lived in France for two years.

When his lucrative contract at Parc des Princes came to an end, Messi chose to go for another new challenge because he found it difficult to please a picky fan base while playing for PSG, where he won two Ligue 1 championships.

He is currently pursuing the American dream, and his five goals in his first three games for Inter Miami have helped the legendary player rekindle his passion.

“He feels supported, loved and that’s the most important thing. At PSG he didn’t have a good time, but he recovered his joy. I repeat, it’s a challenge that personally excites him a lot and I see him very happy.”

After being brought to the United States via Manchester United and England star David Beckham, Messi has signed a two-and-a-half-year agreement in Florida.

According to Alba, Messi’s ambition to succeed is as strong as ever. The left-back for Spain’s national team added:

“Leo is a demanding person. He has won a World Cup. But he is going to continue [playing] the same. He is going to fight for this challenge, try to win everything and that’s why we’re here to help him.”

Ahead of Messi’s arrival, Inter Miami had been in dismal form, but he has scored in three straight League Cup victories, boosting the prominence of Major League Soccer and drawing A-listers to DRV PNK Stadium. Messi is likely expecting to win a trophy soon after arriving in the United States.
