Jurrien Timber could miss entire season due to knee injury
Arsenal will have to use either Tierney or Tomiyasu in left-back position now
Jurrien Timber, an Arsenal new signing could be sidelined for the entire season after sustaining serious knee injury against Nottingham Forest.
The Dutchman earned an appearance in the 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday after being acquired from Ajax for £40 million.
However, he was forced to leave the game early in the second half due to an apparent knee injury. As doctors attempt to determine the extent of the injury, Timber has been subjected to several tests and examinations.
Timber, who was under Manchester United’s notice a year ago, was a member of a defence group that also included Ben White and William Saliba. Dutch player can play a variety of places inside the backline, but the north Londoners are going to lose his adaptability.

An update on the player’s injury from Arsenal read: “Further to his substitution during our match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Jurrien Timber has received extensive assessments and scans which have confirmed he has sustained an injury to his right knee.“
“Jurrien will undergo a further detailed assessment and review with a consultant in the coming days to assess the full extent of the injury, to determine the next steps. A further update will be provided in due course. Everyone at the club will be focused on supporting Jurrien at this time.”
Speaking to the press Mikel Arteta said: “The officials, the doctors, they looked at him and they were happy to continue, him as well, but straight away in the second half the first action he made a movement and it was a bit funny so we took him straight out and now we have to assess him to see what he has.”
Timber will undoubtedly miss matches against United, Tottenham, and Manchester City, all of which are played at the Emirates if he has an injury that requires several months to heal.
All of those games are scheduled to occur over the course of the next two months, and Arsenal also has Champions League obligations to juggle.
The previous year, although spending much of the season at the top, Arsenal’s lack of squad depth was pointed out as a problem when the Gunners ultimately faltered in the latter stages of the campaign. One of the notable newcomers was Timber, but Arteta won’t be allowed to use him in the days to come.
